As student debt grows, grassroots organizations keep pushing for sweeping change on a national level.

Maybe if the lefties would stop getting stupid “whatever degrees” they could concentrate on more useful ones.

You know, degrees actually worth something.

  • kevinzeese

That is not the issue and it is not a left-right issue. The issue is tuition is too high no matter what someone’s degree is in.

What is your degree in? Isn’t your Avatar an Assault Rifle?

Whoa! We need well rounded, educated people of all areas of study! Education is always a good investment. I would rather young people were writing poetry and analyzing literature, and studying history than many other pastimes! Its not all about money! Its about culture! All of the people running childcare centers in Sweden have graduate degrees in early childhood education, imagine how much benefit that is to families, communities and young people! (I have degrees in Latin American Literature and Asian Classics, which have not made me rich, but have enriched my life immeasurably!) Everyone should be able to study what they love!

While you have a point, people need to stop getting “degrees” which may personally “enrich” their desires but makes them no living.

I’m talking about those people who get into massive debt to get a degree which doesn’t make them any money to pay back their loans, and then they default.

Getting “whatever studies” degrees isn’t much more than a PhD in Starbucks.

Don’t blame the kids, blame the university financial fraudsters who hook them into this fraud. They do not reveal the amounts to be repaid. High schools and colleges do not teach kids about financial matters, precisely because they are being groomed to be fleeced. I have paid off high interest car loans, and the company flat out denied me my own payment data, and would not tell me how much interest had been paid. I also had to pay a $600 final payment that was not in my payment book or anywhere in the papers I had, or they would repossess my car. Its the banks we should focus on, not blame the victims.

    No.

It’s the kids and their non-thinking parents who don’t understand BASIC cost/benefit analysis.

  • chetdude

Education used to mean the process of helping normally curious, creative and innovative humans enhance critical thinking skills while retaining our built-in love of learning for its own sake.

By your definition it must be vocational training designed to make the most money by doing the most damage to our only Home Planet and our fellow creatures for short-term profits in a dead-end capitalist system.

A BASIC cost/benefit analysis would tell us that the kind of degrees you are pimping for are those that the current dead-end socioeconomic system values most because they enhance the serious existential damage being done by the status-quo…a sure path to species suicide…

  • chetdude

    I doubt that mr. Tran-sic has a degree…

  • Nylene13

That is what I was insinuating.

But you never know. He could have a rich daddy and a degree in Business. I don’t think they have to take any Liberal Arts or Sociology classes at all….

  • Nylene13

    Excellent Comment Dude!

  • Nylene13

    Well Said rgaura.

Please, by all means pursue stupid and useless “degrees” if you want.

No skin off my back. Just don’t come to me whining when you can’t make yourself a living.

Because I have no sympathy whatsoever for your plight – one which you clearly chose..

Enjoy your career as a barista!

I love how you idiots make it personal when you have no viable arguments and run out of the irrelevant talking points and sophomoric insults the alt-right echo chamber provides for you to regurgitate…

Me? I’ve been independent since the early 60s, engaged in professional vocations as well as having done real work with my hands over the decades and am very well educated, extremely happy and satisfied with a rich, full life for my final years on this Planet…

    You should grow up, child…
