Iran Inflicts ‘Unprecedented Damage’ On CIA Installations Across West Asia

US media highlights that Washington’s intelligence agencies have not come under such attacks throughout all of CIA history.

Iran “inflicted billions” in “unprecedented damage” on US intelligence facilities across the region throughout its many waves of retaliatory strikes launched in response to Washington and Tel Aviv’s war against it, NBC News reported exclusively on 25 August.

“Iranian missile and drone attacks have inflicted damage on US intelligence posts and surveillance hardware in the [region] that is more extensive than any destruction [US] spy agencies have endured,” and the damage will “cost billions of dollars to repair,” the report said, citing four sources.

The Iranian attacks damaged buildings and intelligence equipment used by the CIA and other US intelligence agencies, according to the sources cited by NBC News; however, they did not give an exact figure for the losses inflicted.

The report highlights how the attacks were “unprecedented,” given that since the CIA’s establishment in 1947 there have been no known instances in which it has faced such repeated aerial attacks on its sites and equipment, as has happened in this war on Iran.

Other recent western reports have highlighted major damage inflicted by Iran on US military bases in Jordan and the Gulf.

A new Axios report, released early Wednesday, said that US Secretary of State Marco Rubio told his foreign counterparts that Washington will – “for the time being” – not carry out new strikes on Iran and will instead focus on economic warfare and “other forms of pressure.”

US President Donald Trump recently renewed brutal bombardment of Iran for weeks. The July attacks were met with devastating retaliatory operations from Tehran, which inflicted heavy losses on bases and significant casualties on US troops.

The US president paused his campaign, claiming mediators were requesting de-escalation.

US media reports at the time said the pause came after the military advised Trump that Washington’s strikes were not effective enough.
