The US bombed Iran overnight after Tehran hit a vessel near Hormuz and declared the waterway’s ‘complete closure until further notice’.
Iran launched a large-scale wave of retaliatory military operations targeting Washington’s assets in Jordan, Qatar, Oman, Kuwait, and Bahrain early on 12 July, following an overnight US escalation involving heavy strikes against the Islamic Republic.

The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) announced the strikes as a response to the “aggression of the child-killing US army.”

In several statements, the IRGC said its Aerospace Force struck the Prince Hassan Air Base in Jordan, “destroying” its command-and-control center and MQ-9 drone hangars with ballistic missiles.
The IRGC also announced a heavy attack on the logistical support centers and refueling platforms for US aircraft carriers at the Port of Duqm in Oman.
It added that, in addition to striking and disabling a second non-compliant vessel in the Strait of Hormuz, it targeted the Al-Udeid Air Base in Qatar with ballistic missiles.
The statement said the strikes “destroyed” the base’s fighter maintenance and repair center and its command-and-control center.
The IRGC went on to warn that continued US-Israeli attacks and escalation would result in even harsher responses.
Iran’s military made separate announcements detailing its attacks on a Patriot air defense system, ammunition depot, and radar site belonging to the US military in Kuwait.

At least a dozen blasts were heard across southern Iran’s Bushehr Province during the US attack.
US Secretary of War Pete Hegseth said in a social media post mid-attack that “Iran made a poor choice. Now they pay.”
The latest US strikes came in response to Iran’s enforcement of the newly imposed regulations on the Strait of Hormuz – which has come under Tehran’s management as part of the understanding.
An initial attack on a Cyprus-flagged tanker that was violating regulations in the strait had triggered the overnight wave of US attacks.
US Central Command (CENTCOM) said its attack came after Iran “blatantly attacked M/V GFS Galaxy, a Cyprus-flagged container ship transiting the Strait of Hormuz.”
“A civilian crew member is missing, and the vessel is unable to continue the journey due to an onboard fire and significant engine-room damage,” CENTCOM added.
According to UKMTO, the M/V GFS Galaxy sustained heavy damage, forcing its crew to abandon ship and evacuate in a lifeboat.
“We [have] made it clear that foreign interference and the unlawful designation of shipping routes in the Strait of Hormuz would be met with a firm response,” said the IRGC in the early hours of Sunday.
It added that “these warnings were ignored” and that, “encouraged by foreign actors, several vessels attempted to navigate through an unauthorized route and disregarded our warnings and instructions to correct their course and proceed via the approved shipping lane.”
“As a result, one vessel that had switched off its onboard tracking systems, thereby endangering maritime safety, was struck by a warning shot and brought to a halt,” the statement went on to say.
The incident prompted Iran to fully close Hormuz.
“The Strait of Hormuz has been completely closed until further notice. US intervention has come to an end, and no ships will be allowed to pass,” the IRGC said.
According to Fars News Agency’s military correspondent, the IRGC Navy used a “naval cruise missile” on one of the violating tankers attempting to cross the Strait.
