J20 Counter-Inauguration Protests

| Resist!

Tens of thousands of people will be traveling to Washington, DC on January 20, 2017 (J20) and January 21, to protest the inauguration of Minority President Donald Trump. Many other cities will see similar protests and actions. Infoshop News will be providing information about all of the scheduled protests iand we will be posting news about the protests as they happen in D.C, and around the country.

Scheuled protests include a general disruption of the inauguration (J20), a Women’s March on Washington, and many others. Many Americans dislike and oppose Donald Trump as a despicable human being. Many are worried that his policies will greatly beneift the rich, further worsening the gap between the 1% and the rest of us. Many are upset that Trump’s rhetoric has fueled a massive wave of hate crimes against women, people of color, Muslims, Jews, queers, immigrants and anybody who isn’t like the hateful bigots. Many people are upset at plans by the Trump regime to create a registry of Muslims. All of this has promoted many people to protest on J20.

#DisruptJ20 Call to Action

DisruptJ20: Call for a bold mobilization against the inauguration of Donald Trump on January 20, 2017

On Friday, January 20, 2017, Donald Trump will be inaugurated as President of the United States.

We call on all people of good conscience to join in disrupting the ceremonies. If Trump is to be inaugurated at all, let it happen behind closed doors, showing the true face of the security state Trump will preside over. It must be made clear to the whole world that the vast majority of people in the United States do not support his presidency or consent to his rule.

Trump stands for tyranny, greed, and misogyny. He is the champion of neo-nazis and white Nationalists, of the police who kill the Black, Brown and poor on a daily basis, of racist border agents and sadistic prison guards, of the FBI and NSA who tap your phone and read your email.

He is the harbinger of even more climate catastrophe, deportation, discrimination, and endless war. He continues to deny the existence of climate change, in spite of all the evidence, putting the future of the whole human race at stake. The KKK, Vladimir Putin, Golden Dawn, and the Islamic State all cheered his victory. If we let his inauguration go unchallenged, we are opening the door to the future they envision.

Trump’s success confirms the bankruptcy of representative democracy. Rather than using the democratic process as an alibi for inaction, we must show that no election could legitimize his agenda. Neither the Democrats nor any other political party or politician will save us—they just offer a weaker version of the same thing. If there is going to be a positive change in this society, we have to make it ourselves, together, through direct action.
From day one, the Trump presidency will be a disaster. #DisruptJ20 will be the start of the resistance. We must take to the streets and protest, blockade, disrupt, intervene, sit in, walk out, rise up, and make more noise and good trouble than the establishment can bear. The parade must be stopped. We must delegitimize Trump and all he represents. It’s time to defend ourselves, our loved ones, and the world that sustains us as if our lives depend on it—because they do.

In Washington, DC

DC will not be hospitable to the Trump administration. Every corporation must openly declare whether they side with him or with the people who will suffer at his hands. Thousands will converge and demonstrate resistance to the Trump regime. Save the date. #DisruptJ20

Around the US

If you can’t make it to Washington, DC on January 20, take to the streets wherever you are. We call on our comrades to organize demonstrations and other actions for the night of January 20. There is also a call for a general strike to take place. Organize a walkout at your school now. Workers: call out sick and take the day off. No work, no school, no shopping, no housework. #DisruptJ20

Around the World

If you are living outside the US, you can take action at US embassies, borders, or other symbols of neocolonial power. Our allegiance is not to “making America great again,” but to all of humanity and the planet. #DisruptJ20

Spread the word. Join the fight. #DisruptJ20

While I largely agree with the main idea of this article (protest at Trump’s inauguration), I’m not so sure about some of the statements. For example, the line “the KKK, Vladimir Putin, Golden Dawn, and the Islamic State all cheered his victory” makes me a bit uncomfortable. It sounds like an attempt to demonize Trump, which gets us nowhere. I also highly doubt that ISIS has cheered Trump, considering he’s claimed many times that he wants to blow them to pieces.

Furthermore, although Trump’s victory is said to confirm “the bankruptcy of representative democracy”, there’s no mention of Hillary rigging the primary to cheat Bernie out of the nomination, or of keeping third parties out of the debates and much media coverage which cheated them out of a fair chance. This is what really “confirms the bankruptcy of representative democracy” and what really should be protested. (Of course, by this I don’t mean that Trump’s policies (like the proposed Muslim registry) shouldn’t be opposed. They absolutely should. But some of the planned protests seem to give an atmosphere of pro-Hillary, which I strongly oppose. I almost wish Hillary did win so I’d know people protesting her inauguration didn’t support her.)

I’m pretty sure that Trump and those already in power are aware that much of the country doesn’t want Trump to be president. I’m also pretty sure that they aren’t interested.

On inauguration day, those who are fortunate enough to have jobs will go to work, those who aren’t will continue to struggle for enough food and warmth to survive another day. Protests are good, but let’s be realistic. Just what is anyone going to resist, and how? Signing petitions, etc., is expressing an opinion — not resisting.

This takes us to the bottom line: If we had a revolution, who would fight whom, and for what? We’re rich vs. middle class vs. poor , further split apart by race and ideology. Twenty years into our war on the poor, the middle class thinks “inequality” refers only to the gap between themselves and the rich.

I personally thought it was an attempt to demonize Putin. As for “representative government,” this was always an ideal, never achieved. Today, the rich have full representation, the middle class have some, and the poor have no representation whatsoever.

Much of the media marketed to liberals began trying to sell H. Clinton as a “bold progressive” long before she launched her campaign. People pointed out from the start that this was false, as Clinton’s own record shows. Much of the Dem voting base has deeply opposed the Clinton wing of the Democrats for the past 20 years. Nevertheless, Trump is so appalling that Clinton did win the majority of the popular vote. But the Electoral College picked Trump, so that’s what we’re stuck with.

Well then, just put your head between your legs and kiss your country goodbye. What is the point of reading all this and responding to it just so you can tell us, “Resistance is futile.” What are you a Vogon bureaucrat?

Ryan, McConnell, and Schumer will soon find some grand compromise that hands the national wealth to global corporations. Trump will sign it. A large majority of Americans won’t do anything. But if tens of millions hit the streets and the phones, we can scares the politicians into backing off. That is how democracy really works.
The squeaky wheels get the grease.
Stop telling activists that the pie can’t help themselves, and start telling the pie that they outnumber the .01% 4,000 to one.
I believe that we will win!
