Obama Seeing Defeat On Syria

Obama On Syria Vote In Congress: ‘I Wouldn’t Say I’m Confident’

President Barack Obama is voicing some pessimism about the prospect of Congress approving a use-of-force resolution on Syria, saying, quote: “I wouldn’t say I’m confident” about the measure passing.

He also says he hasn’t decided whether he would launch a military strike on his own if Congress votes down the resolution. He says he is taking the vote and what the American people are saying “very seriously.”

Obama says he knew there was a risk in asking Congress to approve a military strike. But he says he is confident that lawmakers are taking the issue seriously and “doing their homework.”

The president wants Congress to authorize a strike in retaliation for a deadly chemical weapons attack in Syria.

Obama spoke Monday in an interview with NBC News.
