Regional War Is Heating Up In West Asia

Above photo: Twitter/X.

NOTE: We must demand the US immediately end all support – military, financial and political – for the illegal state of Israel, as directed by the International Court of Justice. Without the US, Israel would not be able to wage genocide and attack countries throughout the region. The Axis of Resistance shows no signs of backing down. Before this conflict escalates to a global war, we must do all we can to protest in the streets and pressure lawmakers to stop the US/Israeli aggression in the region.  – Margaret Flowers

Yemen confirms drone strike on ‘vital target’ in Tel Aviv.

The Yemeni Armed Forces has recently intensified its operations in support of Palestine with the use of cruise and ballistic missiles as well as long-range drones.

The spokesman for the Ansarallah-led Yemeni Armed Forces, Brigadier General Yahya Saree, announced on 3 October a “successful” military operation that struck a “vital target” in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv with a swarm of Yaffa drones.

Translation: Statement of the Yemeni Armed Forces regarding the implementation of a military operation deep inside the Zionist entity in occupied Palestine with a number of Jaffa drones.

“The UAV force of Yemeni Armed Forces carried out a military operation targeting a vital target in the [Tel Aviv] area in occupied Palestine with several Yaffa drones. The operation successfully achieved its objectives, as the drones reached their targets without the enemy being able to [shoot them down],” Saree said in a statement shared on social media.

The Ansrallah official did not give any details about the target of the strike, which he described as being part of the “fifth phase” of Yemen’s military operations in support of the Palestinian resistance in Gaza.

Saree also called on “all Arab and Islamic peoples to [stand in support of] the Palestinian and Lebanese peoples” as the first anniversary of the 7 October Operation Al-Aqsa Flood approaches. He then vowed to continue military attacks against Israel until it halts its aggression on the Gaza Strip and Lebanon.

Earlier on Thursday, the Israeli army claimed it had intercepted a “suspicious aerial target” off the coast of central Israel.

Yemen began the so-called “fifth phase” of its operations against Israel in July, launching a daring long-range drone attack that resulted in one fatality and led to Israel’s subsequent bombing of Yemen’s Hodeidah Port.

Thursday’s attack comes less than 24 hours after Sanaa hit military posts deep inside Israel with three winged Quds 5 cruise missiles.

“The missiles successfully reached their targets, while the enemy remains silent about the results of the operation … We will not hesitate in broadening our military operations against the Israeli enemy and who is behind it until the aggression against Gaza and Lebanon ends,” Saree said on Wednesday.

Earlier in the week, Israel carried out a renewed round of airstrikes on Hodeidah Port, killing four people and injuring 29 more.

Syrian, Russian air defenses confront violent Israeli attack near strategic airbase.

Drones, warplanes, and warships took part in the early morning attack on western Syria, targeting a depot near Russia’s largest base in the country.

Syrian and Russian air defenses confronted a suspected Israeli attack early on 3 October that reportedly hit warehouses near Russia’s Hmeimim airbase in the western Latakia governorate.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) reported, “Unknown drones … carried out airstrikes targeting an ammunition warehouse near Jablah city in Latakia countryside, near the largest Russian air base in Syria, which led to the warehouse’s destruction and huge explosions heard from far away.”

SOHR said it was not clear whether the drones were launched from inside Syrian territory or from the sea. According to local reports, drones, warplanes, and warships conducted the violent attack.

Warships and warplanes were present in the sea and skies, “believed to be Israeli,” SOHR added. “The air defenses of the [Syrian] regime and Russian forces confronting the missiles for more than 40 minutes.”

The warehouse is located near the Hmeimim airbase in western Syria. Hmeimim is the largest Russian base in the country.

An Israeli air raid hit the Mezzeh neighborhood in the Syrian capital, Damascus, on 2 October. Three civilians were killed and several injured, according to Syrian news agency SANA.

A day earlier, Israeli airstrikes targeted several areas in Damascus, killing several, including prominent Syrian journalist Safaa Ahmad.

The attacks on Syria come as Israel wages a massive and deadly campaign of airstrikes across Lebanon, including its capital. Israeli jets also continue to target civilians in the Gaza Strip daily.

“For the second time in two days, and in continuation of the criminal approach practiced by the Zionist entity against Syria and countries of the region, the Zionist entity today committed a new crime by attacking a residential building in an area crowded with civilians in the center of the capital Damascus, which claimed the lives of three civilians, injured many others, and caused material damage to private property,” the Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on 2 October.

Hezbollah kills over a dozen Israeli soldiers attempting to invade south Lebanon.

A widespread Israeli media blackout surrounds the rising number of Israeli troop casualties in Lebanon.

Israeli forces continued to take heavy losses during their attempts at infiltrating southern Lebanon on 2 October, forcing them to retreat a number of times.

Lebanon’s Armed Forces (LAF) confirmed on Wednesday afternoon that an Israeli force withdrew from the Blue Line back to the Israeli side of the border after penetrating 400 meters into Lebanon’s territory.

“While an Israeli enemy force was trying to encircle the town of Yaroun from the forest side, the Islamic Resistance fighters surprised them at 2:00 pm on Wednesday 10/2/2024 by detonating a special explosive device, killing and wounding all members of the force,” Hezbollah said on Wednesday afternoon.

“In defense of Lebanon and its people, the Islamic Resistance is engaging in clashes with the Israeli enemy soldiers who have infiltrated the town of Maroun al-Ras from the eastern side, inflicting several casualties among them, and the clashes are still ongoing,” it said earlier.

Video footage showed Israeli forces carrying several dead or wounded soldiers in order to evacuate them via helicopter.

According to Israeli sources cited by Sky News Arabia, 14 soldiers have been killed so far by Hezbollah fighters since Wednesday morning. Al-Arabiya and Al-Hadath previously reported that four have been killed and around 20 others injured.

Among those killed by Hezbollah fighters is Lieutenant Eitan Oster from Israel’s elite Egoz unit. Israel admitted his death as the “first” killed in clashes with Hezbollah.

Early on Wednesday morning, Hezbollah thwarted an attempt by Israeli soldiers to penetrate Lebanese territory via the town of Odaisseh, targeting them and forcing them to retreat after inflicting casualties.

“The number of enemy casualties in today’s battles is very large, and there is a media blackout imposed by the enemy,” the head of Hezbollah’s media relations office, Mohammad Afif, said on 2 October.

The Israeli army claims its ground operation aims to push Hezbollah away from the border and return tens of thousands of Israeli settlers evacuated from the northern settlements as a result of the Lebanese resistance’s operations, which began on 8 October last year.

In his last speech prior to his sudden assassination last week, Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah promised that any ground invasion of Lebanon would be “hell” for Israel and that the settlers “will not return” to the north.
