Resistance: We Need To Talk About The United States

| Resistance Report

Resistance – a web series for revolutionaries

The 8-part documentary mini-series “Resistance” dismantles the rusty and flawed US-American political system, that upholds a deeply entrenched two-party construct, dividing a nation with politics of fear and excluding many citizens from proper democratic representation.

The series features interviews with progressive thinkers like Ralph Nader, Jill Stein (Green Party), Kshama Sawant (Socialist Alternative), and sheds a light on the dubious US-American voting system.

RESISTANCE – EPISODE 1: Mirage Democracy from Stewis Media GbR on Vimeo.

The shock of November 9th 2016 drove many Americans into the streets to protest the election of the most disliked candidate in American history. How could this happen?
In this episode, Blake travels to Washington D.C. to meet with leaders and commentators of the independent left to analyze the systemic problems that allowed such a hated candidate to be elevated to the most powerful position in the world. Some uncomfortable questions are revealed, like is the United States a legitimate democracy?

Bring on the rest of the videos! Hope this spreads understanding and that there is a clear plan that inspires people to meaningful action.

  • Ava Tara

This is not available with captions! Once again “activism” leaves deaf and hard of hearing people out of the picture, even though a full 15% of the adult population has some hearing loss.

  • chetdude

No more than any other capitalist technology…

  • Ava Tara

Not when it comes to deafness and HOH ableism, no. And FYI people can add captions to their Vimeo videos, the creator of these videos chose not to so it can’t be blamed on “capitalist driven technology” they were using. There isn’t an excuse.

  • Ava Tara

And it is the very definition btw. Ableist means “treating people unfairly
because they have a disability (= an illness, injury, or condition that
makes it difficult for them to do things that most other people can do):
An ableist society is one that treats non-disabled individuals as the standard of “normal living”. Normal/hearing people are who the videos are catering to. Specifically not inclusive to deaf/HOH/D-B people.

  • chetdude

The problem is that you’re blaming a group of people opposing the dominant paradigm, the Systemic Disease, one symptom of which is marginalizing and ignoring minority populations who don’t provide enough profit – like the deaf/hard of hearing, the blind, people with Malaria, those in the bottom 90% of “wealth holders”, etc) for something over which they have little control.

  • Ava Tara

You’re standing by that by supporting their ableism because it’s also what Capitalism does? And which by the way they have full control, not no control, because people can add captions to their vimeos.

  • chetdude

They’ve JUST released the FIRST installment of an 8 part documentary.

    You’ve lodged your complaint.

So instead of automatically blaming the creators of evil intent, why not wait and see if the creators of the videos respond and spend the extra money to create captioned versions.

(I prefer watching video without the distraction of captions but agree that the option should be available.)

  • Ava Tara

You’re literally marginalizing my experience as a deaf person right now by mansplaining capitalism to me LOL!

  • Ava Tara

They don’t have to spend any extra money. It’s built into vimeo to add captions to videos. Which should have been done before it was released. And yes I did lodge my complaint, and you complained about a deaf person speaking up to be included in activism information LOL, so nice work, ableist. (y)

  • Alexa Fleming

Why are you blaming this woman for lodging a legitimate complaint? People who watch youtube daily, take college classes, log into webinars, have access to CC. Also, she could be a second-language learner.

My individual comment, as an expat of many years, is that “Resistance” is too anti-Trump a term to be meaningful. Our problems pre-dated Trump, prob started with Reagan, and most of the new crop of Dems are just more cogs in the duopoly machine. Witness Bloomberg, more to the right than Trump, who can just buy his way onto the debate stage, while Booker and Gabbard are muted by the DNC, who changed the rules in the middle of the game. HRC, who pretty much bought and paid for the DNC as they were dead broke. The risible caucus-fail in Iowa today, another Dem debacle.

If we are truly part of any real “Resistance,” we need to know who we are fighting against. This is a class war, not a partisan one. If voters do not back a real progressive, not just another fakoid identity candidate (Hello, Mayor Pete, Obama-lite, who even cadences his speech the same way) we will continue to be a nation of overwhelmingly have-nots.

  • chetdude

I’m trying to explain that it’s neither easy nor cheap to add captions

to a video and to ask you to wait and see if they respond to your
request instead of prematurely assigning improbable negative motives to
    people.

Good Grief. I think I’m getting a good lesson in how it feels to be a victim of what, virtue signaling? I’m not sure but it’s basically being blamed for something that’s the opposite of who and what I am or advocate.

Sort of how Bernie must have felt after being blindsided with completely counter-factual back channel misandry from CNN and the Warren campaign.

  • Ava Tara

It’s really easy to add captioning to videos, and free. On VIMEO where their video is shared. ” Will get accused by some people who are more interested in form than context for not including captions in (pick a language)”- that shows your ableism right there. Deaf/HOH/D-B people only want access to it the same as everyone else- which you’re deeming as petty or somehow overtly entitled. You’re wrong.

  • Ava Tara

Virtue signaling LOL! That’s some hilarious gaslighting right there. Your attitude is very ableist- just because you don’t recognize it due to ignorance, does not mean it isn’t. Deaf people are left out of normal disability inclusion and awareness in society, so logically I understand why you don’t “get it”. But regardless, I’m asking to be able to understand activism videos and you’re bitching about that, so you should seriously question why you are so very offended that I want to understand these videos. And yes it is both cheap and easy to add captions to your videos- I have asked multiple activist people on youtube if they could please caption their stuff so I can hear it and they IMMEDIATELY did. No whining, no arguing. They were just like “oh yeah I didn’t realize I wasn’t being deaf inclusive I’ll do that rn.” It should be an automatic and it’s not. That’s why you’re so offended by my comments- because you’ve never thought we should automatically be included before and we should. Deal with it.

  • chetdude

You just want to pick a fight with someone you’ve decided is your “enemy” (and who isn’t).

I’ve already posted the facts and a link to why it’s a significant added expense to “just add captions” and I’m not your enemy, so I’m done playing this game. Bye…

  • chetdude

The only offense I derive from your posts is that they are counter-productive.

Ascribing nefarious motives to people who don’t have them is not a good way to get what you want.

As my grandmother used to say, “You catch more flies with honey.” If you really wanted captions you should have asked THE PRODUCERS for them instead of assuming that they left them off to offend YOU…

(Sheesh – now you’re calling them “my videos” when I had nothing to do with them…that’s where this name calling and bad guessing shyte leads, kid. What a f*cked up country the internet has become)

  • Ava Tara

I’m stating my opinion, not picking a fight. And on vimeo it is not. Toodles!

  • Ava Tara

Ableism does not have to infer a nefarious motive lol. It’s built into society and most often reinforced by well intentioned but ignorant people (and perpetuated by people like yourself who are informed of better and refuse to believe their perception or action is not 100% correct). I meant “your videos” as in anyone who creates video content online, did not think that you made these videos personally LOL. (I got a much more respectful response from them).

  • Robert Owen

It would surely be helpful in spreading the word, if these videos could be downloaded so that they could be shown to people in places that don’t have broad-band internet for streaming, or communities that cannot afford adequate technology to receive the streaming. Yes, there are places and communities like that, both in the US and in “ex-pat” (aka refugees) outside of the US. Please think about this.

  • Hi Robert.
The video can be downloaded when you go to the Vimeo page where it is hosted. There you’ll find a link to download it in whichever size and format suits your needs. We encourage everyone to download the show for the purpose of organizing and coalition building. Hope that helps and please let us know when/if you screen it. Thanks for watching.

  • Robert Owen

Hi Blake, thanks so much for the reply. I’ve got it downloaded, along with the srt (subtitle) file, and I’m set to show it to people. Best, Robert.

  • Robert Owen

Ava, Do what Blake advises in his response to me. Go to the Vimeo page to download it, and there is an option to download the subtitle file, too. Robert

  • Great! Thanks so much Robert. We really appreciate it.

  • Ava Tara

I did go to Vimeo can’t see where there is an option to dl it. I went to both resistance series and Stewis media gbr page.
