After the martyrdom of Hajj Qassem Soleimani in 2020, an Iranian cleric made a tongue in cheek remark that Iranians would need to kill Spongebob in order to achieve an equal revenge for the brutal murder of one of the main architects of the entire Axis of Resistance’s military capabilities. The comment, now in the light of the assassination of Seyyed Ali Khamenei, rings true beyond its memetic qualities. The leaders in Iran are statesmen, religious leaders, and scholars, the stature of which do not exist in the United States; Ali Larijani, for example, had written four books on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant.
