Syria’s Al-Sharaa Dismisses Trump’s Proposal For Military Intervention In Lebanon

US President Donald Trump announced mid-June that he discussed with Syrian interim President Ahmad al-Sharaa the possibility of Syria’s military intervention in Lebanon to disarm Hezbollah. Trump claimed that by tasking Syria with this mission, he aims to stop the mass killing committed by Israel during its attempts to dismantle the Lebanese resistance movement. “I’ll tell you what, Israel is fighting Hezbollah too long and too many people are being killed, and you don’t have to knock down an apartment house every time you are looking for somebody, because there are a lot of people in those apartment houses and they are not all Hezbollah, that I can tell you."

The ceasefire announced on 8 June by US President Donald Trump following an exchange of fire between Iran and Israel is conditional on a cessation of hostilities not only in Beirut but also in southern Lebanon, Tasnim reported, as Tehran moves to implement a new regional defense doctrine. “Iran agreed to the ceasefire request based on a new and conditional equation, stating that if Israeli attacks or Israeli and American crimes continue in Lebanon and its south, not just in Beirut, the confrontation will resume and Tehran will respond more violently and significantly than before,” the semi-official Iranian news agency stated.

Since October 2023, Israel has waged a genocidal aggression on the Gaza Strip with unwavering support from the United States. The war soon expanded to include other parts of West Asia, including the West Bank, Lebanon, Iraq, Syria, Yemen, and ultimately Iran. However, in the case of Iran, the United States has ostensibly been the driver and primary military force leading the unprovoked aggression, launched jointly with Israel twice in the span of eight months, between mid 2025 and early 2026. The all-out multi-front imperialist war has claimed over 90,000 lives, according to reports issued by official authorities and organizations in each of the targeted countries.

After the martyrdom of Hajj Qassem Soleimani in 2020, an Iranian cleric made a tongue in cheek remark that Iranians would need to kill Spongebob in order to achieve an equal revenge for the brutal murder of one of the main architects of the entire Axis of Resistance’s military capabilities. The comment, now in the light of the assassination of Seyyed Ali Khamenei, rings true beyond its memetic qualities. The leaders in Iran are statesmen, religious leaders, and scholars, the stature of which do not exist in the United States; Ali Larijani, for example, had written four books on the philosophy of Immanuel Kant.

US Envoy: Syria Will ‘Actively Assist’ Washington In Confronting Hezbollah

US envoy Tom Barrack said on 13 November that the extremist-led government in Damascus will “actively assist” Washington and Tel Aviv in confronting Hezbollah in Lebanon. “I had the profound honor of accompanying Syrian President Ahmad al-Sharaa to the White House, where he became the first Syrian Head of State ever to visit since Syria gained its independence in 1946,” Barrack said on X. He also hailed the former Al-Qaeda chief’s “commitment” to joining Washington's ‘anti-ISIS’ coalition, “marking Syria’s transition from a source of terrorism to a counterterrorism partner – a commitment to rebuild, to cooperate, and to contribute to the stability of an entire region.” “Damascus will now actively assist us in confronting and dismantling the remnants of ISIS, the IRGC, Hamas, Hezbollah, and other terrorist networks, and will stand as a committed partner in the global effort to secure peace,” the envoy added.

Iran Security Chief In Baghdad For Talks On ‘Next Phase’ Of Resistance Axis

The Secretary-General of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Ali Larijani, arrived in Baghdad for two days of meetings with Iraqi officials regarding the future of the Axis of Resistance and the political stability of Iraq and the region, Shafaq News Agency reported on 11 August. An informed source told Shafaq that, “Gathering the so-called Axis of Resistance in the region and rearranging its cards, along with Iraq's political role in calming the situation in the region during the next phase, are among the most important files that Larijani brought with him to Baghdad.” The secretary-general “stressed the need to employ tools and redistribute tasks after the withdrawal of US forces from Iraq according to the agreed-upon withdrawal schedule, and to find an official and protocol-based formula for this,” the source added.

Iraqi MPs Reject US Meddling In Law To Institutionalize Anti-ISIS Resistance

Iraqi lawmakers have fired back at Washington’s interference in a government bill to further institutionalize the Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) into the state.  Mahdi al-Ameri, an Iraqi MP with ties to the PMU, told Rudaw on 5 August that they “will not submit to any external pressures regarding Iraq and Iraq's sovereignty,” adding that the law will serve all Iraqis.  “When we say Popular Mobilization Forces, we have Sunni, Shia, Christian, and Shabak PMUs. Even our Kurdish brothers are present in this institution. This is a security institution linked to the commander-in-chief of the armed forces,” he added.  The lawmaker stressed that there is a determination to pass the law despite US intervention.

On the early morning of 13 June, Israel launched an aerial assault on Iran, killing over 224 people to date. This is the gravest breach of Iranian sovereignty since the US-backed Iran–Iraq War of the 1980s, widely understood as a proxy effort to dismantle the nascent Islamic Republic. In its opening salvo, Tel Aviv assassinated top Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders, scientists, and academics, striking residential blocks and faculty housing. The war continues into its fifth day, with Israel and Washington openly seeking to collapse the Islamic Republic and crush the region’s anti-imperialist resistance.

16 months of brutal genocide and siege have done all but break the Palestinian resistance, which has steadfastly – if not miraculously – fended off and broken the ruthless siege of the Zionist entity. As an official death toll stands at 61,700 – with much more accurate estimates tallying the martyrs at over 300,000, “Israel” has yet again turned to slaughtering civilians. The Palestinian resistance has recruited at least 30,000 new fighters in Gaza, according to conservative estimates earlier this year. Three-quarters of the Resistance’s tunnels remain and the ambushing and fighting both Al-Qassam and Saraya al-Quds continue against an occupation that has mostly withdrawn its ground occupying troops in Gaza while mulling over sending robots into Gaza.

At least 53 people, including a number of women and children, were killed and dozens of others injured in a series of airstrikes launched by the US on multiple locations across Yemen on Saturday, March 15, according to Yemen’s Health Ministry. The US aggression was launched on the order of President Donald Trump, who announced via his Truth Social account on Saturday, that it aimed at “protecting US shipping, air, and naval assets and to restore navigation freedom” from Ansar Allah’s attacks. “Our brave Warfighters are right now carrying out aerial attacks on the terrorists’ bases, leaders, and missile defenses to protect American shipping, air, and naval assets, and to restore Navigational Freedom,” Trump’s post reads.

The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) intensified aerial attacks on Yemen in the last several days, as Ansar Allah-led Yemeni Armed Forces continued operations against Israel in retaliation for the ongoing Israeli genocide in Gaza, and against Israel’s allies who attempt to bypass the blockade imposed by Ansar Allah of Israel. On Thursday, December 26, Israeli warplanes targeted civilian facilities of Yemen’s Sanaa International Airport, including the airports’ main runway, control tower, and an aircraft, according to the Israeli newspaper The Jerusalem Post.

Tehran and Baghdad expressed support for Syria on 6 December during a press conference to discuss the recent expansion of extremist groups across the country, following meetings between the foreign ministers of the three states in the Iraqi capital. “There is an international duty to fight terrorism in Syria,” Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said during the press conference. The foreign minister thanked Baghdad for hosting the tripartite meeting in the Iraqi capital, where he “held important meetings with the presidencies in Iraq in which he talked about relations between the two countries and the situation in Syria."
