Millions Gather To Mourn Slain Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei

Massive crowds gathered in Tehran on 4 July for the farewell ceremony of slain Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei, who was killed on the first day of the US-Israeli war on the Islamic Republic. Waving Iranian flags and carrying portraits of Khamenei, Iranians filled Tehran's Imam Khomeini Grand Mosalla and the surrounding streets, chanting slogans demanding justice for his killing. Iranian media described the massive turnout as a “renewal of allegiance to the ideals of the Islamic Revolution, Islam, and the martyrs, symbolizing the nation's commitment to dignity, independence, and resistance.”

How Decades Of Anti-Iran Hysteria Set Us On The Path To War

The unthinkable has happened: the United States and Israel have launched a war on Iran, now in its second week. More than 1,300 people have reportedly been killed by American taxpayer-funded munitions, and some 100,000 displaced, while hospitals, schools, playgrounds and other civilian infrastructure have been destroyed. The assassination of Iran's supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, in the opening US-Israeli strikes on 28 February was intended to decapitate the country's leadership and advance the regime-change goals openly declared by the Trump administration.

Before Khamenei Killing, CIA Assessed He Would Likely Be Replaced By More Hardline Elements

Before the US and Israel launched a war against Iran on Saturday morning and killed Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the CIA assessed that if the Iranian leader were killed, his rule would likely be replaced by “hardline” figures from Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, Reuters has reported. The report said that the assessment was produced over the past two weeks as the US was building up its forces in the region and preparing to launch the war. The New York Times reported that the CIA had been tracking Khamenei for months and knew that he would be at his compound in Tehran meeting senior Iranian officials on Saturday morning, where he was hit by a joint US-Israeli strike.

Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei Confirmed Dead

Iran confirmed the death of Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei early on March 1. Khamenei, along with several members of his family, was killed in the US-Israeli airstrikes carried out against sites across Iran on February 28. In addition to the Supreme Leader, over 200 Iranians have been killed, including several top officials and commanders, and hundreds have been injured. Iran has declared 40 days of national mourning and mass demonstrations have broken out in cities across the country against the US-Israeli strikes.
