During a community outreach activity in the Almirante Lino de Clemente commune, Miranda state, Venezuelan Acting President Delcy Rodríguez emphasized the strategic need to break with the oil rentier economic model and highlighted the importance of strengthening of the Venezuelan participatory and protagonistic socialist model in this regard. During the activity, held on Saturday, february 7, Rodríguez highlighted that oil revenue will be reserved exclusively for social welfare and the improvement of public services, while production must originate from the territory in the communes.

Venezuelan healthcare workers marched to the United Nations (UN) headquarters in Caracas on Thursday to demand the release of President Nicolás Maduro and First Lady Cilia Flores following their kidnapping by US forces on January 3. During the march, nurse Betsy Caraballo emphasized her desire for the president’s return “to continue with his public policies,” particularly those focused on the healthcare sector.  “The empire must release him because this was a kidnapping. In the early hours of Saturday, January 3, blackouts, aircraft noise, and heavy explosions were heard throughout Caracas and in several other regions of Venezuela. In a statement released around 3 a.m., the Venezuelan government confirmed that the US government launched military strikes in Caracas, La Guaira, and Aragua state. After several hours of uncertainty and following US announcements, the kidnapping of the Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro and his wife Cilia Flores was confirmed. The Venezuelan statement, besides confirming the US military aggression, also informed the public that Venezuela is prepared to repel any further attacks.

In her speech on Friday, December 19, Rodríguez, who is also the minister of hydrocarbons, emphasized that Venezuela has a firm stance of dignity and resistance. She underscored that the country has no outstanding debts with the Trump administration. Rather, Washington owes the Venezuelan people compensation for stealing Venezuelan state assets.
