Calls Mount For ‘FIFA And World Cup Out Of The US!’

Antiwar and human rights activists in 11 U.S. cities — Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco Bay Area and Seattle — are gearing up for a campaign to demand that Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) move World Cup soccer games out of the U.S. because of its war crimes around the world.  For the world’s peace-loving peoples, the call to “Boycott the U.S.!” is especially poignant while marauding, masked Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and other Dept. of Homeland Security storm troopers continue their war at home against the world’s immigrant workers, foreign-born students and tourists.

The World Cup Is Coming; Our Cities Must Protect Their People

Soccer is called the world’s game because it is truly global and belongs to everyone. The kids playing barefoot in the park, the fans in the cheap seats, the communities that turn every match into a block party. This year, the FIFA Men’s World Cup will bring that game to our own cities: Atlanta, Boston, Dallas, Houston, Kansas City, Los Angeles, Miami, New York-New Jersey, Philadelphia, San Francisco and Seattle. This is a moment that should unite us with pride and joy, but too often, the institutions and unaccountable elites behind the sport build walls where there should be open fields.

Risk Level Four: Do Not Travel To The United States

We are issuing a Level 4: Do Not Travel advisory for the United States ahead of the World Cup. Before FIFA has people traveling from all over the world to come to the U.S. to watch soccer, the truth needs to be made known. The World Cup is supposed to bring people together. But in June 2026, FIFA plans to host matches in the United States, a country where travel from other nations is no longer safe. The conditions now present in the U.S., including a high risk of arbitrary detention, political violence, lack of due process, and state coercion, meet the very criteria used to warn its own citizens about travel to other countries. That is why we are issuing our own travel advisory.

World Cup Boycott Calls Grow In Response To Trump

The drums of protest and calls to boycott the 2026 FIFA World Cup are beating louder in the United States. Thousands of fans are expressing concern about the tournament’s security, outrage over the armed attack in Venezuela, and the controversial human rights policies of the Donald Trump administration. According to European media, messages promoting ticket cancellations on resale forums, travel agencies, and hotel booking sites have not only prompted extraordinary meetings between officials and representatives of member associations, but have also generated discussions about potential strategies to address the shifting perceptions surrounding the tournament.

FIFA: The Beautiful Game Cannot Support Genocide And Repression

The Black Alliance for Peace North South Project for People(s)-Centered Human Rights delivered a message to FIFA's President and Head of Human Rights regarding the ongoing and rapidly deteriorating human rights conditions in Palestine, as well as current conditions in the United States that BAP believes makes the United States a dangerous nation for citizens and residents of foreign nations to visit. In that communication we made the argument that because of the ongoing genocide and the role of the U.S. as a facilitator of that genocide, as well as the unsafe and hostile conditions in the U.S. that has compelled a number of nations to issue advisories against travel to the U.S., we called on FIFA to ban the United States and Israel from hosting and participating in international competition, and to relocate the 2025 World Cup from the United States.

FIFA And IOC Must Ban The US And Israel From International Sporting Events

The United States has become dangerous for members of the global community, and specifically for non-white/non-European people. The world is witnessing massive violations of human rights and the Constitution of the United States as masked agents using unmarked vehicles raid work places, homes, and places of public assembly to incarcerate and disappear Black, Brown, and Indigenous people and, in too many cases, denying them legal representation and basic information as to their whereabouts and wellbeing to their families and attorneys. Under the current U.S administration anyone suspected of residing in and/or visiting the United States with or without “proper” documentation, including U.S. citizens, are being harassed, questioned about their political beliefs and even detained without due process.

Blatter Showered In Cash By Protester

By Justin Block in Huffington Post - Outgoing FIFA president Sepp Blatter was treated to his preferred choice of shower on Monday in Zurich, Switzerland, courtesy of British comedian-turned-protester Lee Nelson. Nelson interrupted Blatter's press conference, which addressed a new FIFA reform task force, by approaching Blatter and placing a stack of fake one dollar bills on his desk, saying it was given to him by North Korea as part of a bid for the 2026 World Cup. FIFA security quickly escorted Nelson out of the room, but not before he could make it rain all over Blatter. Blatter, taken by surprise, immediately backed away from the shower in feigned disgust, as if this isn't exactly what he's been doing in his office for the past 17 years. Nelson, who also interrupted Kanye West's set at Glasonbury last month, so upset Blatter that the president stopped the conference before returning with an odd joke, according to Sam Borden of The New York Times.

Soccer Players Punished For Palestinian Solidarity

In an attempt to bring the Euro 2020 competition to Jerusalem, the Israeli Football Association (IFA) has submitted a bid to UEFA – the governing body of European football. The IFA is proposing the Teddy Stadium as the location for the tournament. But this venue is also home to Israel’s ultra-racist Beitar Jerusalem team. The Red Card Israeli Racism campaign has been pushing for the exclusion of Israel from the bidding process, reminding UEFA of Israel’s unlawful claim on Jerusalem as its “capital” and the recent massive assault on Gaza. UEFA will make a decision on 19 September. The federation claims it does not mix sport and politics. But if UEFA awards the Jerusalem bid it will be a political decision. Israel is sure to exploit the occasion to promote an image of Jerusalem as if Palestinians do not exist. Political symbol? In fact, UEFA does mix sport and politics. Last week it was reported they had imposed fines on Scottish and Irish football clubs over supporters who waved the Palestinian flag and chanted pro-Palestine slogans during European matches. UEFA apparently considers the flag of Palestine a political symbol because the conflict with Israeli forces in the region was then still ongoing, reported Scotland Now.

A World Cup For The 1%

When Germany and Argentina square off in the Word Cup Final, the whole world will be watching the culmination of what may be the most exciting FIFA World Cup Tournament ever. What most people are unaware of, however, is the brutal conditions that FIFA creates to pull off the games.

Majority Of Brazilians Think World Cup Is Bad

In this episode of Acronym TV, Derek Poppert of Global Exchange talks with Dennis about his Re-Think The Cup series. In a recent piece from the series, FIFA: Return The Beauty To The Beautiful Game, Derek writes: “So who wins the World Cup? While it may seem that decision is still getting played out in stadiums across Brazil, FIFA president Sepp Blatter is surely laughing from his luxury suite. The winner had already been decided well before the first match even began. FIFA’s 4 billion dollars in untaxed revenue from the event is the trophy. It appears to be of little interest to Mr. Blatter or other FIFA execs that this trophy has come on the backs of 200,000 low-income people being forcefully evicted from their homes to make room for the event, 8 construction workers dying in the frenzied rush to erect stadiums on time, or 14 billion dollars in Brazilian taxpayer money being spent on the tournament in the face of poverty, inequality, and widespread social issues within Brazil.”

Why At Least one FIFA Player Should Protest The World Cup Final

Imagine the impact if a player from one of the remaining FIFA semifinal World Cup teams (Germany, Brazil, The Netherlands, or Argentina) were to engage in an act of protest against FIFA for it’s Imperial practices that have literarily displaced at least 250,000 Brazilians? Imagine if Lionel Messi, Thomas Muller,Arjen Robben, or even the injured Neymar were to pull a John Carlos sometime during the semifinals or finals of the World Cup? If any sports organization deserves to be protested, FIFA is it.  As Dave Ziron correctly pointed out, Luis Suárez May Bite, but FIFA Sucks Blood.
