Ship Carrying Russian Fuel Heads To Cuba

The Sea Horse ship carrying Russian fuel is heading to Cuba amid the island’s energy situation and defying US President Donald Trump’s sanctions to impose tariffs, Bloomberg reported. According to the media outlet and data from maritime intelligence firm Kpler Ltd, the ship could be carrying about 200,000 barrels of Russian diesel fuel. They reported that its arrival is scheduled for early March, according to Kpler’s chief oil analyst, Matt Smith. For his part, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously stated that Russia is in contact with its Cuban partners regarding oil shipments to the island, amid the tightening of the US blockade.

Activists with CodePink, in solidarity with Hawaii-based water protectors, on Friday projected images on a submarine tower outside the Navy museum in Washington, D.C., calling for a shutdown of a military fuel storage facility associated with contamination of Oahu drinking water. Messages displayed on the USS Balao Conning Tower included "Shut down Red Hill tanks," "Demilitarize Hawaii," and "Navy is poison." In a Saturday statement, CodePink said that the "Navy's failure to protect its sailors, their families, and the broader community is further justification of the need to demilitarize and decolonize Hawai'i and serves as a testament to the military's prioritization of 'business as usual' over the health and wellbeing of the people."

Western news media are once again distorting the conflict in Syria with lopsided coverage this week, claiming to focus their concern on a humanitarian crisis in the northwest of the country. Outlets such as the New York Times and the BBC, among others, claimedthat 900,000 civilians are fleeing violence brought on by Syrian state forces and their Russian ally continuing an offensive against “rebels”.
