US Coast Guard Says It Intercepted Ship Carrying Fuel To Cuba

The US Coast Guard said Friday that its forces intercepted a ship that was attempting to bring fuel to Cuba, as the US continues to enforce a ramped-up oil embargo on the country, which has caused a devastating humanitarian crisis. The Coast Guard said that the incident occurred in early September, when a “Coast Guard tactical team” boarded the M/V Grace, a 300-foot-long container ship, in the Caribbean Sea. The Coast Guard said it then escorted the ship to Mexico, where Mexican authorities found fuel stored in the ship’s ballast tanks. It said that earlier in the summer, US Coast Guard personnel stopped and boarded the M/V Jaira Provider, another vessel it accused of carrying fuel bound for Cuba.

The US oil blockade against Cuba continues to cause enormous hardships for the Cuban people. Following the attack on Venezuela by US forces on January 3, 2026, Cuba has received only one fuel shipment, which provided nearly 100,000 tons of crude oil thanks to Russia’s cooperation. In fact, following the attack, the United States has banned the export of Venezuelan crude oil to Cuba. Furthermore, it has threatened other countries with economic sanctions if they sell oil to Cuba, which has deterred other governments from selling crude oil to the island, with the notable exception of Russia.

We have no more reserves,” Vicente de la O Levy said in a televised statement. Hours later, CIA Director John Ratcliffe flew to Havana with Washington’s demand for “fundamental changes.” That sequence tells the story. U.S. imperialism first tightened the fuel siege. Then it sent the head of the CIA to deliver the political ultimatum.

Ship Carrying Russian Fuel Heads To Cuba

The Sea Horse ship carrying Russian fuel is heading to Cuba amid the island’s energy situation and defying US President Donald Trump’s sanctions to impose tariffs, Bloomberg reported. According to the media outlet and data from maritime intelligence firm Kpler Ltd, the ship could be carrying about 200,000 barrels of Russian diesel fuel. They reported that its arrival is scheduled for early March, according to Kpler’s chief oil analyst, Matt Smith. For his part, Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov previously stated that Russia is in contact with its Cuban partners regarding oil shipments to the island, amid the tightening of the US blockade.

Activists with CodePink, in solidarity with Hawaii-based water protectors, on Friday projected images on a submarine tower outside the Navy museum in Washington, D.C., calling for a shutdown of a military fuel storage facility associated with contamination of Oahu drinking water. Messages displayed on the USS Balao Conning Tower included "Shut down Red Hill tanks," "Demilitarize Hawaii," and "Navy is poison." In a Saturday statement, CodePink said that the "Navy's failure to protect its sailors, their families, and the broader community is further justification of the need to demilitarize and decolonize Hawai'i and serves as a testament to the military's prioritization of 'business as usual' over the health and wellbeing of the people."

Western news media are once again distorting the conflict in Syria with lopsided coverage this week, claiming to focus their concern on a humanitarian crisis in the northwest of the country. Outlets such as the New York Times and the BBC, among others, claimedthat 900,000 civilians are fleeing violence brought on by Syrian state forces and their Russian ally continuing an offensive against “rebels”.
