Military bases, especially foreign ones — current and sought — generate wars. The United States has used its bases in Latin America and the Caribbean to attack Venezuela, while threatening to take over Greenland to build more bases there. Iran is bordered by seven nations with U.S. bases. The nations to the south and east of China are packed with U.S. bases, as is Europe, as is Israel. Africa has foreign bases from several empires. Russia is making more use of its bases in Belarus. On February 23, 1903, the United States took over Guantanamo from Cuba. It has never restored it. People across Latin America have used this date to organize events opposing bases, militarism, and the Monroe Doctrine.

On September 2, 2025, the Palestinian NGO Network (PNGO), which represents 150 Palestinian-led member organizations in Gaza and the West Bank, issued a Call for a Global Day of Action and Strike September 18th, 2025, endorsed by major grassroots organizations representing hundreds of millions of people around the globe (see PNGO’s Call for a full list of initial endorsers). This September 18 marks the deadline given by the UNGA in Resolution A/ES-10/L.31 for Israel to end its unlawful presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT). The same resolution, which was issued September 18, 2024, also ordered Israel to immediately comply with the provisional measures in the genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ).

New Yorkers Mobilize For Gaza As Protests Grow Around The World

This month has been an especially horrific one in the nearly two-year-long genocide of Gaza. Israel is intentionally starving Gazans, threatening total occupation, and expanding their ethnic cleansing of Palestinian land to the West Bank. But this has all only fueled greater support for the movement for Palestine. The passive sympathy for Palestine which has been growing for a long time has begun to show more publicly. This was apparent in the August 16 rally for Gaza in New York City. The action was initially called by Palestinian Youth Movement and the Party for Socialism and Liberation, groups which have regularly called mobilizations since the start of the genocide.

The Masar Badil movement called for escalation of all forms of popular actions and mobilizations in supoort of the Palestinian people in Europe, North America and South America, developing the global popular movement against Zionist-imperialist genocide in Palestine, and confronting the brutal crimes and aggression against our people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

This powerful plea from Gaza’s youngest journalist reflects the desperate situation unfolding in Gaza and the urgent need for global solidarity. Lama, along with Dr Ahmed Al-Mughrabi, former head of the Plastic and Burns Department at Nasser Hospital in Khan Yunis, is calling for a global strike to be held on 1 October in support of Palestinians in the Strip.

Flight Attendants Turn Out For Worldwide Day Of Action

Los Angeles, CA – On the late morning of June 13, hundreds of flight attendants from different airlines picketed across terminals at LAX, the Los Angeles airport. Three unions were present and coordinated together Worldwide Day of Action, hitting multiple airports across the country. AFA-CWA (Association of Flight Attendants), APFA (Association of Professional Flight Attendants), and the TWU (Transport Workers Union) all organized flight attendants as they marched throughout the busy LAX terminals demanding contracts, and an end to corporate greed. Flight attendants are demanding action as negotiations have reached a standstill between them and different airline companies.

The proposal states that in each city, we will identify and blockade major choke points in the economy, focusing on points of production and circulation with the aim of causing the most economic impact, as did the port shutdowns in recent months in Oakland, California and Melbourne, Australia, as just a few examples. There is a sense in the streets in this recent and unprecedented movement for Palestine that escalation has become necessary: there is a need to shift from symbolic actions to those that cause pain to the economy.

People’s Movements To Launch Massive Land Day Mobilizations

The International Peoples’ Assembly (IPA), representing political organizations and people’s movements across five continents, has called for massive mobilizations worldwide to mark the Yawm al-Ard (Land Day)—a day to celebrate the struggle of Palestinians against occupation. Land Day marks the anniversary of the killing of six protesters by the Israeli occupation on March 30, 1976, in response to a general strike and marches organized by Palestinians. On that day, large-scale demonstrations were carried out by Palestinians across historic Palestine against the Israeli government’s plan to expropriate thousands of dunums of Arab-owned land near the sea of Galilee (Lake Tiberias).

The people of Cuba will join millions across the world in taking to the streets on March 2 to demand that Israel immediately cease its genocidal war on Gaza and stop its planned March 10 invasion of Rafah. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel announced the call for mobilizations on X stating “Cuba joins the global mobilization this March 2 in support of Palestine. In all of the provinces and in Havana, we will be on the streets in solidarity with our brother people and to condemn the holocaust that Israel seeks to provoke in Rafah. Everyone for Gaza!”

Workers Protest And Strike On Global Day Of Action To ‘Make Amazon Pay’

Workers and activists in different parts of the world downed their tools and took to the streets on Friday, November 24, to mark the fourth global day of action to “Make Amazon Pay.” Convened by Progressive International and UNI Global Union, the campaign organized actions across 31 countries to protest the exploitative practices of the tech and commerce giant. The action was held on ‘Black Friday,’ which is considered to be the biggest retail shopping day in the US, with companies announcing major discounts and sales to lure buyers. “Workers know that it doesn’t matter what country you’re in or what your job title is, we are all united in the fight for higher wages, an end to unreasonable quotas, and a voice on the job,” said UNI Global Union’s general secretary Christy Hoffman.

On this day, the global movement for Food Sovereignty denounces the control of food systems in the hands of agribusiness transnationals, a global corporate network that is intensifying the hunger of millions of people in the world, as well as the massification of malnutrition as a chronic disease of the new generations. It is unacceptable that more and more people in the world are going hungry and that food insecurity is intensifying, affecting one third of the world’s population.
