Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya Appears In Court For The First Time

In yet another attempt to break the will of Palestinians and their supporters around the globe, Israeli occupation authorities released new footage of Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya in hand and foot shackles. The footage, taken during his first appearance before an Israeli court on Wednesday, June 10, shows his health condition remarkably deteriorating. My detention is “unjust” and arbitrary and I demand my immediate release, Abu Safiya maintained. This is the second time that footage surfaced revealing the dire situation of the prominent Palestinian physician under Israeli custody.

Benghazi, Libya  – Eleven unarmed civilian volunteers, comprised of doctors and humanitarians, remain unlawfully detained in Libya. They are part of the Global Sumud Land Convoy, a peaceful humanitarian mission of 230 participants from 21 countries carrying ambulances, medicine, and mobile homes overland to break the siege on Gaza. The eleven have been subjected to arbitrary detention, severed communications, and sustained psychological pressure. This is a textbook case of arbitrary detention under international human rights law, violating Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and Articles 6 and 7 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.
