Massive Crowd In DC Protests Immigration Orders

Protests at U.S. airports carried over to Sunday, including rallies at Dulles and Baltimore-Washington International Airports. Trump’s order bars admission of Syrian refugees and suspends travel to the United States by nationals from Iraq, Iran, Sudan and four other countries, even if the residents hold valid visas or permanent residence permits. People subject to the ban include dual nationals born in one of the seven countries who also hold passports from countries not on the list.

By Mark Hanrahan for NBC News - Hours after a federal judge issued a stay on President Donald Trump's executive order temporarily restricting entry to the U.S. from seven Muslim-majority countries, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and a senior White House adviser issued robust responses, emphasizing that the order remains in force. In a statement issued in the early hours of Sunday, the Department said: "President Trump's Executive Orders remain in place — prohibited travel will remain prohibited, and the U.S. government retains its right to revoke visas at any time if required for national security or public safety."

Native Tribe: Wall With Mexico Will Not Be Built On Their Land

By Carrie Jung for KJZZ - Tribal leadership of Tohono O’odham Nation in southern Arizona said they won't support a border wall project on their land. Part of their reservation extends into Mexico and covers 75 miles of the international border. The tribe’s chairman and vice chair said the plan was always to try to work with whoever holds the office of the United States President. But, they added, it’s still too early to tell exactly how Donald Trump’s administration will impact the tribe. Vice Chairman Verlon Jose explained tribal members have traversed their ancestral land since time immemorial, and a wall of any sort would not be supported by the community.

By Kevin Zeese for Popular Resistance. Protests at airports across the country sprung up like a brush fire in reaction to Donald Trump ban on travel from certain Muslim-majority countries. And, courts in multiple states issued emergency orders initially to stop deportations but ultimately to block detentions of people traveling to the United States from this countries. Courts issued rulings in New York, Virginia, Massachusetts and Washington State. Now, there is a nationwide stay preventing deportations and detentions. This morning Donald Trump tweeted that "Our country needs strong borders and extreme vetting, NOW. Look what is happening all over Europe and, indeed, the world — a horrible mess!" Before noon, the White House changed its tune reversing itself and saying green card holders will not be barred but added confusion saying border agents would have "discretionary authority" to detain people and that there would be increased scrutiny of everyone, including US citizens, coming from the seven countries.

By Kevin Zeese for Popular Resistance. President Donald Trump's executive order blocking immigration from specified Muslim-dominated countries took hold and impacted people almost immediately. The order includes people from Iran, Iraq, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria and Yemen and bans citizens of these seven Muslim-majority countries from entering the U.S. for at least 90 days. President Trump's Muslim ban excludes countries linked to his international business empire, i.e. Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt and Turkey, where Trump holds multi-million dollar licensing and development deals. The order prevents entry of any refugees to the U.S. for four months. There was an immediate reaction to the ban. People were at airports to support those being held at airports when they came off of an airplane. In addition, lawsuits were being filed to support them and overturn the Trump ban.

Wednesday night in Washington Square Park was no different. Hussain, an undergraduate student at Fordham University, was one of thousands of people who came to take part in a protest organized by Muslim groups in response to President Donald Trump's proposed de facto ban on Muslims entering the United States. "Every time I come out [to protests] I see the same sentiments," Hussain told me in an interview following the event. "Everyone wants social justice and equality for all. People don't care if you have a headscarf. It's wonderful."

The US President issued an executive order on Wednesday titled “Border Security and Immigration Enforcement Improvements” which signed into law many of his most extreme immigration policies,. It included an instruction that the Secretary for Homeland Security should “on a weekly basis, make public a comprehensive list of criminal actions committed by aliens” in the US.

Twenty-Six Arrested At Sessions Confirmation Hearing

A total of 26 protesters were arrested today in opposition to Jeff Sessions, including members of Refuse Fascism, the NAACP, Democracy Spring, Code Pink, and Howard University, according to Refuse Fascism. The group is calling for millions to pour into the streets of DC to prevent Trump and Pence from assuming power. The protests began even before confirmation hearings officially began. Two CODE PINK members dressed in KKK costumes stood up before the hearing was gaveled to express their support for Sessions. They praised "Jefferson Beauregard" and as they were taken from the room they yelled mockingly "you can't arrest me, I am white!" and "white people own this government." In the hall as they were being detained they explained that Sessions history on racism, immigration, LGBTQ rights and sexism made him inappropriate to serve as attorney general.
