Land Convoy

Free The 11 Global Sumud Land Convoy Volunteers

Benghazi, Libya  – Eleven unarmed civilian volunteers, comprised of doctors and humanitarians, remain unlawfully detained in Libya. They are part of the Global Sumud Land Convoy, a peaceful humanitarian mission of 230 participants from 21 countries carrying ambulances, medicine, and mobile homes overland to break the siege on Gaza. The eleven have been subjected to arbitrary detention, severed communications, and sustained psychological pressure. This is a textbook case of arbitrary detention under international human rights law, violating Article 9 of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR), the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights (ICCPR), and Articles 6 and 7 of the African Charter on Human and Peoples' Rights.

The convoy of 230 participants from more than 20 countries, including doctors, engineers, educators, lawyers and ecobuilders, alongside 7 ambulances, 20 mobile homes, and 10 aid trucks loaded with life-saving supplies and was intended for the besieged civilian population of Gaza.

Global Sumud Land Convoy Advances Overland To Break Siege On Gaza

Zalitan— At a press conference held today in Zalitan, Libya, international human rights leaders and grassroots advocates united to declare that "Gaza is not alone" as the Global Sumud Land Convoy advances overland toward Rafah. Moving in tandem with the Global Sumud Flotilla at sea, the convoy’s speakers addressed the critical urgency of the mission, the complicity and participation of global governments, and the growing, unstoppable civil society movement to confront israel’s illegal siege and ongoing genocide in Gaza, and the 78 years of ethnic cleansing in occupied Palestine.
