Letter From A Columbia PhD Candidate, After Fleeing The United States

My name is Ranjani Srinivasan. I was a 5th year PhD student at the Department of Urban Planning, GSAPP. I was also a TA in the Urban Studies Department at Barnard College. Some of you might have heard about my case. For those who haven’t, I would like to share the details. On Wednesday night (March 5), my visa was revoked by the Department of State. While I was examining the email on Thursday morning (March 6), I received a phone survey from a private number claiming to be a third party hired by CU to administer a student opinion survey on campus conditions.

Israeli Fascism Is Fueled By US And European White Supremacy

As bombs supplied to the Israeli settler state by the settler colonial state known  as the United States, are once again raining down on the battered and dehumanized people of Gaza, it would still seem that in a rational world, a world in which there was an elementary baseline of morality, a live-streamed crime of a magnitude not seen since the end of the second world-war would be incomprehensible.  However, that world does not exist. Instead, we live in a world still defined and controlled by the hypocritical powers of the West. A West infused with values and ideas demonstrating it has never had any concerns for humanity beyond itself.

Chris Hedges: The Last Chapter Of The Genocide

This is the last chapter of the genocide. It is the final, blood-soaked push to drive the Palestinians from Gaza. No food. No medicine. No shelter. No clean water. No electricity. Israel is swiftly turning Gaza into a Dantesque cauldron of human misery where Palestinians are being killed in their hundreds and soon, again, in their thousands and tens of thousands, or they will be forced out never to return. The final chapter marks the end of Israeli lies. The lie of the two-state solution. The lie that Israel respects the laws of war that protect civilians. The lie that Israel bombs hospitals and schools only because they are used as staging areas by Hamas.

Film On Gaza Solidarity Encampments Launched Amid Crackdown On Activism

A new documentary chronicling the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at Columbia University will premier at the CPH:DOX Film Festival in Copenhagen on March 25, 2025. “The Encampments,” a film produced by BreakThrough News and Watermelon Pictures, “challenges the dominant media narrative by revealing the true spirit of the encampments—what it felt like to be there, the emotions that fueled the students, and what motivated their drastic action,” said directors Kei Pritsker and Michael T Workman. The film was produced by nonprofit media organization BreakThrough News, Grammy-award winning musician Macklemore, and Watermelon Pictures, a production company focusing on Palestinian-centered films.

Call For Global Action On The International Al-Quds Day, March 28

Jaldia Abubakra, member of the Executive Committee of the Masar Badil, the Palestinian Alternative Revolutionary Path Movement, called for broad popular participation to confront the crimes of the Zionist enemy through the activities on Al-Quds Day, the last Friday of the month of Ramadan, falling this year on March 28. The Masar Badil movement called for escalation of all forms of popular actions and mobilizations in supoort of the Palestinian people in Europe, North America and South America, developing the global popular movement against Zionist-imperialist genocide in Palestine, and confronting the brutal crimes and aggression against our people in the besieged Gaza Strip.

When The Banality Of Evil Becomes Normalized, It Grows Unchecked

February tends to be a pretty harsh time of year in Berlin. Freezing temperatures, short days, and perpetually gray skies weigh heavy upon the city’s inhabitants, amplifying an already fraught atmosphere in Germany. Amidst a persistently bleak economic outlook, the country is undergoing a sharp rightward shift, with traditional parties increasingly mirroring the rhetoric of the far-right AfD, to the point where the distinctions between them are becoming negligible. This shift has been accompanied by the criminalization and escalating repression of any movement, initiative, or individual criticizing the Israeli government’s actions, or expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people — the victims of what numerous experts describe as an ongoing genocide.

Georgetown Postdoc The Latest To Be Detained By ICE

Dr. Badar Khan Suri, a postdoctoral fellow in peace and conflict studies at Georgetown University, was detained by Department of Homeland Security agents on his way home from teaching an evening class on March 17. Suri, an Indian citizen, is a fellow at the Alwaleed bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding, an interfaith research center housed at the school's D.C. campus. Around 8PM that day, he was approached by a group of individuals wearing face coverings who identified themselves as DHS agents, according to court filings.

Federal Agents Seek Detention Of Cornell Graduate Momodou Taal

Ithaca, N.Y. — Days after filing a lawsuit against the Trump administration that challenges the constitutionality of two executive orders that violate free speech, Cornell graduate student Momodou Taal has said that he is being watched by federal agents who could be looking to detain and potentially deport him before he can make his case in court on Tuesday. “This morning, shortly after a federal judge scheduled a hearing in my lawsuit demanding the courts strike down Trump's executive orders attacking free speech, law enforcement from an unidentified agency came to my home in Ithaca, New York,” Taal said in a social media post on Wednesday, March 19.

Nationwide Protests In India Condemn Israel’s Crimes

Progressive groups in India held a national day of protest against Israel’s grave violations of the ceasefire in Gaza. The protestors also demanded the Indian government take a more assertive stand on the issue and stop indirectly aiding Israel’s criminal activities. The day of action was organized by the Palestine Solidarity Organization, a platform with participation from most of the left parties as well as student, women, and trade union organizations. The central protest was organized in New Delhi where participants carried posters and banners denouncing Israel’s continued genocide in Gaza.

Shipping Giant Maersk Votes Against Ceasing Arms Shipments To Israel

Danish shipping company Maersk, responsible for transporting hundreds of millions of dollars worth of weapons to Israel since October 7, 2023, voted on Tuesday in its annual general shareholder meeting against resolutions that would have halted arms shipments to Israel. The vote comes in the wake of Israel’s resumption of the genocide in Gaza. The day of the vote was also marked with a wave of global protest, as part of a day of action called by the the international “Mask off Maersk” campaign launched by the Palestinian Youth Movement (PYM), with the intent of continuing to put pressure on the shipping giant to cease its role in Israeli genocide.

Israel’s Most Explicit Statement Of Genocidal Intent

The Israeli defense minister is simply following Trump’s position and reiterating what everyone who isn’t a blinkered partisan hack knew Trump was saying two weeks ago. He is doing this in exactly the same way Benjamin Netanyahu followed Trump’s position on ethnically cleansing Gaza last month by enthusiastically endorsing the plan Trump put forward to permanently remove all Palestinians from the enclave. Trump puts forward the plan, and Israeli officials put it into action. So you’ve got both the U.S. and Israeli governments openly threatening the entire population of the Gaza strip with the war crime of collective punishment if they don’t somehow kick Hamas out of Gaza, and additionally announcing the intent to inflict “total devastation” upon that population if they do not.

Palestinian Political Prisoner Mahmoud Khalil Releases Statement

Mahmoud Khalil, a green card holder with permanent residency, has released his first public statement since his arrest on March 8. He was taken into custody by plainclothes Department of Homeland Security (DHS) officers in the lobby of his Columbia University apartment complex due to his alleged connection to Hamas. His statement, released Tuesday, was dictated by phone to family members from an ICE center in Louisiana. Khalil, who has not yet been charged with a crime, said he is a “political prisoner” and expressed concern with the political and social climate in the United States that led to his arrest.

Right To Free Speech Curtailed On Cornell Campus

On March 10, we as members of the Ithaca community joined with Cornell students and allies to exercise our First Amendment right to protest on behalf of the Palestinians in Gaza, who are the victims of genocide at the hands of the Israeli Occupation Forces. We and multiple students were arrested on the orders of Cornell’s president, self-proclaimed 1st Amendment champion Michael Kotlikoff. His office had invited a panel comprised of war criminals and genocide enablers from the US and Israeli government, with a token former Palestinian government official who had a <25% approval rating by Palestinians, under the guise of discussing "pathways to peace".

Legal Coalition To Pursue Israelis Accused Of War Crimes

Lawyers have launched a global coalition to pursue legal action around the world against Israelis and Israeli dual nationals accused of involvement in suspected war crimes in Gaza. At a launch event in London on Tuesday, the International Centre of Justice for Palestinians (ICJP) said the Global 195 initiative would seek to use domestic and international legal mechanisms to seek justice against Israeli soldiers and others “spanning the entire Israeli military and political chain of command”. Speaking at a press conference, Tayab Ali, director of the ICJP, began his remarks by paying tribute to the hundreds of Palestinians killed in Israeli air strikes after it broke the ceasefire with Hamas in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Israel Unleashes Bloody Gaza Bombardment, Killing Hundreds

Israel killed more than 400 Palestinians, including over 100 children, in one of the bloodiest bombardments of the Gaza Strip early on Tuesday, unilaterally ending its ceasefire with Hamas. Air strikes began hitting all five Gaza municipalities from north to south at around 3am local time (12am GMT) on the 18th day of the holy month of Ramadan. Footage broadcast by Al Jazeera showed children and babies among those killed and wounded. At least 413 people were killed and 660 wounded, according to the Palestinian health ministry.
