Peace Negotiation

‘Operation al-Aqsa Flood’ Day 321: Ceasefire Negotiations To Continue

ِAn Israeli negotiating team will head to Egypt in the coming days in order to resume the latest round of ceasefire talks that started last week, Israeli media sources reported on Thursday. The team will hold talks with Egyptian and Qatari mediators and with U.S. officials over the status of the Philadelphi corridor and the Rafah land crossing. U.S. Ambassador to the UN Linda Thomas-Greenfield addressed the UN Security Council on Thursday, stating that a ceasefire deal was “in sight,” despite evidence that Netanyahu is once again aiming to sabotage the talks by insisting on holding onto the Philadelphi and Netzarim corridors, hence continuing to occupy Gaza and maintain an indefinite military presence in the coastal enclave.

Palestinian Factions Gather In Moscow To Devise A United Response

Palestinian political groups have gathered in Moscow to discuss the possibilities of greater unity and the formation of a united government to work for the formation of an independent state and to resist the ongoing war in Gaza. The meeting is being attended by all major groups in Palestine such as the constituents of the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO), including Fatah and Palestinian People’s Party, and non-constituents such as Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad. According to Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov, representatives of 14 Palestinian organizations, both from the occupied Palestinian territories as well from countries in the West Asian region, have been invited for the meeting.

Biden Administration Is Undermining The Venezuela Dialogue

The talks between the Venezuelan government and the extreme-right wing opposition had been going well. There are still outstanding issues to be resolved, like ending the economic war, but the discussions held in Mexico led to concrete electoral developments. The European Union agreed to send an electoral observation mission. The United Nations decided to send a panel of electoral experts. (Both institutions refused to observe the 2018 presidential and 2020 legislative elections, despite invitations from the government.) Thousands of opposition candidates registered to run in the mega-elections, which include voting for governors and mayors, as regional and local legislators. It’s a good thing that agreements on the elections were reached quickly, because the Biden administration, following in the Trump administration’s footsteps, has been actively undermining the dialogue.
