Trump ‘Postponed’ Strikes On Iranian Power Plants

Iran warned it will completely shut down the Strait of Hormuz if its power plants are targeted in US-Israeli attacks. It also repeated that power plants in countries in the region that host US military bases will also be “legitimate” targets of its retaliation. The statement was issued by Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya central military headquarters on Sunday, March 22, following US President Donald Trump’s threat on Saturday about targeting Iran’s power plants if it fails to open the Strait of Hormuz in the next 48 hours. Iran announced previously that the strait is open for all except for the allies of the US and Israel.

The summit is historic not only because of its trilateral format, but because it signals the emergence of a flexible Global South bloc capable of recalibrating regional and global power balances.

Iranian, Russian, Chinese Forces To Hold Joint Naval Exercise

Iranian Navy Commander Rear Admiral Shahram Irani told the state-run Islamic Republic of Iran News Network (IRINN) television news channel on Friday evening that Iranian, Chinese and Russian forces will jointly practice exercises during the 2024 Marine Security Belt naval war game. He added that delegates from Pakistan, Brazil, Oman, India, South Africa and a number of the Caspian Sea littoral states have also been invited to participate in the drills as observers. Iranian naval forces and their Chinese and Russian counterparts have held several military drills in recent years to improve the security of international maritime trade, counter piracy and maritime terrorism, exchange information in naval rescue and relief operations, and exchange operational and tactical experiences.

As US Soldiers Are Deployed In West Asia, Iran Urges Respect

More than 3,000 soldiers from the Bataan Amphibious Ready Group and the 26th Marine Expeditionary Unit were deployed by the US in the Red Sea on Sunday, August 6. They arrived on board two warships, USS Bataan and USS Carter Hall, and entered the Red Sea through the Suez canal, the US Fifth Fleet based in Bahrain said in a statement on Monday. “These units add significant operational flexibility and capability as we work to deter destabilizing activities and deescalate regional tensions caused by Iran’s harassment and seizures of merchant vessels,” Fifth Fleet spokesperson Commander Tim Hawkins told AFP.
