Born and raised in Haiti, Fritz Emmanuel Lesly Miot works in a California laboratory, researching Alzheimer’s disease. Miot has lived legally in the United States for 15 years. Laila Doe, a Syrian citizen, lives in Illinois, where she works as a behavioral technician for individuals with disabilities and cares for her elderly American-citizen mother and her teenage daughter. Doe has lived here legally for 13 years. Donald Trump wants to deport them—Miot to Haiti, Doe and her daughter to Syria. Miot has diabetes. Doe’s daughter knows little Arabic.

A federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to revoke Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 300,000 Haitian immigrants in the US, following intense pressure from over 300 labor unions, faith groups, and rights advocates. The victory however, has done nothing to quell the outrage at the government’s efforts to terminate the protections. Community groups say tens of thousands of Haitian immigrants are especially vulnerable as ICE forces are set to deploy to Haitian hubs in the state of Ohio, Springfield and Columbus, according to a leaked White House memo.

Washington — Since Inauguration Day, more than 1.5 million immigrants have either lost or will lose their temporary legal status, including their work authorizations and deportation protections, due to President Donald Trump’s aggressive revocation of legal immigration. It’s the most rapid loss in legal status for immigrants in recent United States history, experts in immigration policy told States Newsroom. The Trump administration curtailed legal immigration by terminating Temporary Protected Status for more than 1 million immigrants and ending Humanitarian Parole protections for half a million more individuals.
