The recent declaration of war published by the U.S. fascist state attacking Cuba and its allies serves as a glaring call for urgent and strategic unity among the targeted organizations, the broadest sectors of the U.S. left, and all people of conscience. It comes as no surprise that a scrambling empire would see organized, sustained resistance that refuses to silently accommodate its lawless, genocidal attacks on human rights globally as a credible threat. Directly out of their imperialist playbook, it is quite clear that this is an attempt to criminalize Cuba’s existence while intentionally omitting the actual cause of suffering for the Cuban people - the decades-long blockade systematically depriving them of food, medicine, and fuel, designed to strangle the revolution by all available means.

On July 16, inside the Loy Henderson Conference Room at the U.S. State Department, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller stood before representatives of more than 60 countries and declared open season on the global left. Billed as a ministerial on the “resurgence of political terrorism,” the gathering was in reality the launch of a coordinated international campaign to criminalize dissent against U.S. imperial power and its most conspicuous contemporary project: the ongoing destruction of Gaza.

The Trump administration’s drive to turn the machinery of counterterrorism against left-wing movements worldwide kicked into a higher gear this month surrounding its convening of an international “Ministerial on the Resurgence of Political Terrorism.” On July 16, 2026, Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau stood before representatives of over 60 nations assembled for the global summit in Washington, D.C. to introduce his boss, Secretary of State Marco Rubio. As he opened for the arch neoconservative, Landau told those assembled, “For those of us who grew up in the 1970s, the topic that we’re going to be discussing today is all too familiar.”

More than thirty years after the end of formal apartheid, South Africa’s people still struggle to meet their basic needs, with unemployment at 32.7% officially and 43.7% when discouraged workers – those available for work but no longer looking – are included. Meanwhile, the country’s riches are extracted by multinational corporations.

Like many urban systems, the Chicago Public Library (CPL) offers robust support for immigrant communities: collections in multiple languages, English language and citizenship classes, and voting rights events. In October 2025, as the invasion of Chicago by federal forces ramped up, the Uptown branch hosted an ICE-alert kit making event, inviting the public to assemble packets of whistles and zines informing neighbors about the violent occupation of the city. Until Mayor Brandon Johnson signed an executive order banning Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from city-owned properties on October 6, public librarians could not legally prevent ICE agents from using their buildings.

I probably already wrote this article back in 2014. I could almost copy and paste any of my articles from that time, change Nicolás’s name to Delcy’s, and that would say it all. It’s like we’re back in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016… Back to that tiresome time when the ever-ineffective, self-righteous left, watching from afar with disgust, believes it has the right to judge us. Back to the legacy experts, those who then claimed, with a mixture of indignation and remorse, that Maduro betrayed Chávez’s legacy, and who today, without mincing words, assert that Delcy betrayed Maduro’s legacy. The same ones are back with their sad, tiresome, yet always ego-reeking laments about our path.

Donald Trump recently bragged that he was “on a roll” after kidnapping President Nicolas Maduro of Venezuela and beginning the process of turning that country into a U.S. vassal state. Venezuela was the first domino to fall and the U.S. planned for Cuba to be next. An important part of this strategy was to end Venezuelan oil shipments to Cuba, along with threats of lawfare indictments against Cuban leadership as was done against Maduro, and demands that President Miguel Diaz-Canel step down. Already weakened by 67 years of unilateral coercive measures and the imposition of a State Sponsor of Terrorism Status, which increased the economic damage of the U.S. maximum pressure campaign, Cuba was in great danger.

Palestine is the moral heart of global anti-colonial politics. The combined forces of the political and media establishment threw everything they could at Connolly to try to stop the momentum behind her campaign. “Smear the bejaysus out of her”, as Ivan Yates [1] suggested, was the strategy deployed. Her trip to Syria, her employment of a Republican convicted of a gun crime, her comments in opposition to US, French and British imperialism, as well as her previous work as a barrister, were all endlessly scrutinised and picked over. The red thread running through the majority of the smears was the fact that she is out of touch with the political and media establishment in her defence of neutrality and opposition to aligning more and more openly with NATO.

Is it not predictable that when segments of a population are harassed, marginalized and enslaved, they will eventually revolt? Does that not constitute a demand for justice? According to American historian Herbert Aptheker, in North America from the 1600s to the end of the Civil War, there were at least 250 revolts each involving at least 10 enslaved persons. The largest revolt of about 500 enslaved people took place in Louisiana in 1811. All of these rebels, widely cursed by those in power as threats, might better be remembered as America’s Black huddled masses, yearning to breathe free. Throughout American history episodes of racist violence intensified when African Americans — and other people of color — made legitimate claims to full citizenship. In the twentieth century, given the right conditions, any of those incidents should have triggered a renewed civil rights movement, but for a variety of reasons, most did not.

To the surprise of perhaps no one, the tragedy of McCarthyism is being played out yet again as farce by the unimaginative buffoons running the U.S. congress. On Wednesday, June 11, The U.S. Senate Subcommittee on Crime and Counter-Terrorism, chaired by Republican Josh Hawley, sent what appears to be a slightly modified form letter to the Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) and several other organizations. In the letters, Hawley accuses these groups of fomenting civil unrest and demands that they immediately “cease and desist any further involvement” in the ongoing protests in Los Angeles. The letters also provided a bullet-point list demanding that the groups preserve records going back to November of 2024, including internal communications, emails, and text messages, suggesting that the groups may be formally investigated by the Senate in the near future.

The composition of the new European Parliament will more or less trace the outgoing one. Much ado about nothing? Not really. It’s not just a question of how many votes and seats you get—the conservative European People’s Party (EPP) increased their share by 10 seats, and the ultra-right parties Identity and Democracy and European Conservatives and Reformists by 13—but also where and how. The ultra-right is the leading force in two key countries such as France and Italy, where it won around 30% of votes (40% if we add the votes of Zemmours Reconquuête in France and Salvinis Lega in Italy).

Recently, a rash of articles has surfaced criticizing the Western left for “celebrating” Hamas. Most of these critiques say that reducing support for Palestinian resistance to supporting Hamas is a disservice to Palestinians because Palestinians represent a multiplicity of voices with different political dispositions. Instead, these arguments call on the Western left to reckon with the complexity and diversity of Palestinian politics. Bashir Abu Menneh’s article in Jacobin, “The Palestinian Resistance Isn’t a Monolith,” chastises what he claims is the left’s celebration of a “socially regressive” movement such as Hamas in an article that reads more like a hidden critique of armed resistance itself than of Hamas.

The Anti-NATO Movement Is The Most Conscious Element Of The People

Lenin wrote that “The younger the socialist movement in any given country…the more resolutely the workers must be warned against the bad counsellors who shout against ‘overrating the conscious element.’” Even though the USA’s socialist movement is technically quite old, it might as well be as young as it was in Lenin’s time. Because the American communist movement got virtually destroyed by McCarthyism, then by the war against the Panthers. It’s now trying to rebuild itself, and regain the mainstream status it used to have. And the fact that the Democratic Party gained a vast amount of influence over the movement after the USSR’s fall, effectively turning the parts under its control into wings of the party, has made those same actors Lenin warned against into significant threats to this rebuilding effort.
