Relatives of two Trinidadian citizens killed in a US missile strike in the Caribbean have filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the Trump administration. This litigation, the first of its kind, seeks justice for the brutality of the unauthorized military campaign that, under the pretext of a “war on drugs,” has claimed more than 120 lives in the Pacific and the Caribbean since last September. The lawsuit asserts that Chad Joseph and Rishi Samaroo, two workers who earned their living in fishing and agriculture in Venezuela, were returning to their home in Trinidad and Tobago on October 14, 2025, when a US missile struck their vessel.

The US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM) announced a new “lethal kinetic strike” against a small boat in the Caribbean, the 20th of its kind to date. Although the announcement was made on Friday, November 14, it reportedly occurred on November 10, four days earlier. These “strikes” have been labeled as extrajudicial execution by the United Nations, “At the direction of Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Joint Task Force Southern Spear conducted a lethal kinetic strike on a vessel operated by a Designated Terrorist Organization,” reads the statement accompanying the video of the strike that the SOUTHCOM posted on social media.

The recent attack on a small boat allegedly carrying drugs has generated fear among coastal communities. Fishermen now worry that future operations could mistake them for criminals, creating an atmosphere of fear and mistrust. They are demanding clear responses and safety guarantees. President of the All Tobago Fisherfolk Association, Curtis Douglas, confirmed this Monday, September 8, that fishermen found debris believed to be from the destroyed boat washed into Trinidadian waters.

This is a grave mistake. Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana have become pawns in the US Empire’s nefarious plan to militarize the Caribbean region under the auspices of the US Southern Command (SOUTHCOM). The US claims that this military cooperation is about enhancing regional security and dealing with issues such as the trafficking of persons, drugs and weapons, and to improve the military capability of these Caribbean countries.

Jobs are disappearing at an accelerated rate in the light and heavy manufacturing industry.
