Unilateral coercive measures

SADC Calls For ‘Unconditional Lifting’ Of ‘Illegal’ US Sanctions On Zimbabwe

The Southern African Development Community (SADC) has condemned the US-imposed unilateral sanctions on Zimbabwe as “illegal” and a violation of the “basic human rights of ordinary Zimbabweans”. It has also once again called for their “immediate and unconditional removal.” The regional intergovernmental organization with 16 member states has been observing every October 25 as the SADC Anti-Sanctions Day, after the date was thus designated by the heads of the SADC states at its 39th Summit in August 2019. “These sanctions have not only affected the people of Zimbabwe and their Government, but the entire region.

16th BRICS Summit Opens In Kazan, Russia

During his speech at the ongoing BRICS summit on Wednesday, October 23, Russian President Vladimir Putin expressed his desire to see the grouping play a greater role in global affairs and in resolving regional and international challenges. Putin asserted that BRICS unites “like minded countries, civilizations, and cultures” and “all member states stand for equality, good neighborly relations, and mutual respect, for high ideals of friendship, global prosperity, and well-being.” The 16th summit of the 10-member grouping is being held in Russia’s fifth largest city of Kazan from October 22 to October 24.

West Votes Against Rest Of World, Supporting Illegal Sanctions

In the United Nations Human Rights Council, the West voted against the rest of the world, supporting unilateral coercive measures, known popularly as sanctions, which violate international law. In the April 3 meeting of the Human Rights Council (HRC), a resolution was approved titled “The negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the enjoyment of human rights”. The measure condemned sanctions for their “far-reaching implications for the human rights of the general population of targeted States, disproportionately affecting the poor and persons in the most vulnerable situations”.

Sanctions Harm One-Third Of The World’s People

The most insidious and pervasive form of modern warfare by Wall Street and the Pentagon, acting in coordination, is passing largely unnoticed and unchallenged. This calculated attack is rolling back decades of progress in health care, sanitation, housing, essential infrastructure and industrial development all around the world. Almost every developing country attempting any level of social programs for its population is being targeted. U.S. imperialism and its junior partners have refined economic strangulation into a devastating weapon.

Support The UN Resolution Against Unilateral Coercive Measures

For decades the U.S. government and its European allies have been illegally using unilateral economic sanctions (“Unilateral Coercive Measures”) as a weapon of war and mass destruction to topple governments that do not submit to the U.S. and European states’ domination of their country. The main objective of these unilateral sanctions is to destroy those small countries’ economies and bring their people to their knees through mass starvation so they will be left with no choice but to revolt against their own government. This criminal, anti-human policy of targeting defenseless populations, which is in clear violation of United Nations Charter and international law, has now become the new weapon of choice for these powerful states since they are faced with strong opposition from the majority their own population to the endless wars of occupation that they are already involved in.

Nonaligned Movement Meets In Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan - At the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Summit held in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Friday, Venezuela's President Nicolas Maduro lashed out at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and announced that the U.S. economic and financial aggressions are as lethal as its armies. The Bolivarian leader said that "the new modes of international war are economic aggressions" against the most vulnerable population groups, among which are children, women and the elderly. "In the years to come, our movement must raise an alternative to the inhuman, exclusionary and impoverishing model which the IMF and the World Bank intend to impose," Maduro urged. "The imposition of brutal neoliberal economic measures, which are designed by the IMF and applied by Washington's satellite governments, include pension and salary cuts, brutal increases in public service fares and curtailment of the right to education and health."
