UN Security Council Condemns Iran Attacks On Gulf

The UN Security Council has voted to call for an end to Iranian attacks on the Gulf, in a resolution that did not mention US or Israeli attacks on Iran, prompting strong criticism from Tehran’s ambassador.   The resolution was tabled by Iran's Gulf neighbour Bahrain and sponsored by 135 countries.  It demanded “the immediate cessation of all attacks by the Islamic Republic of Iran against Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Jordan”.  It also condemned actions or threats by Iran “aimed at closing, obstructing, or otherwise interfering with international navigation through the Strait of Hormuz”.

No US War On Iran: An Open Letter To The UN Security Council

The President of the United States is issuing grave threats of force against the Islamic Republic of Iran if it does not accede to US demands. His actions risk a major regional war that would be devastating. Asked if he wanted regime change, he responded that it “seems like that would be the best thing that could happen.” When asked why a second US aircraft carrier has been sent to the region, President Trump answered “in case we don’t make a deal, we’ll need it … if we need it, we’ll have it ready.” These threats are in violation of Article 2(4) of the UN Charter

Washington Stands Alone At United Nations Security Council

All but one of the 15 members of the UN Security Council – the US – declared that the famine in Gaza is a “manmade crisis” and warned that using starvation as a weapon of war is prohibited under international law and constitutes a war crime, during a meeting on 27 August. The 14 council members announced in a statement that they support an immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire, the release of all hostages, a significant surge of aid throughout Gaza, and for Israel to immediately and unconditionally lift all restrictions on relief deliveries. “Famine in Gaza must be stopped immediately,” the statement read. “Time is of the essence. The humanitarian emergency must be addressed without delay and Israel must reverse course.”

United Nations Security Council Votes On Draft Ceasefire Resolution

The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) will vote on a draft resolution calling for an "immediate, unconditional, and permanent ceasefire to be respected by all parties in the Gaza Strip, informed sources told Al Mayadeen. Informed sources explained that the draft resolution reiterates the Council’s demand for the "immediate and unconditional release" of all captives and rejects "any effort to starve the Palestinian population." The resolution also calls for "immediate access to essential services and humanitarian aid for civilians in Gaza, facilitating the wide-scale entry and delivery of humanitarian assistance, including to civilians in the besieged north Gaza."
