New York City Home Care Workers Announce Hunger Strike On Mamdani’s Watch

New York City home care workers announced Wednesday they will start a hunger strike on Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s watch beginning next week if promised City Council legislation ending mandatory round-the-clock shifts in the industry isn’t brought to the floor for a vote. “We have been here for more than a month and we have’t seen the mayor,” home care workers rallying outside City Hall said through an interpreter on Apr. 8. “They all made the promise. We will not wait again. We call on everyone, come back April 13, we continue the sit-in—and April 16 we go on hunger strike!” City Council Speaker Julie Menin [D-5th District] pledged to bring Intro. 303—the No More 24 bill—to the floor for a vote when she met with home care workers on Mar. 19—the second day of their latest sit-in outside the gates of City Hall.

Four Ways Zohran Mamdani Can End Financial Support For Israeli Settlements

When Zohran Mamdani won the mayoral race of New York City, many believed his election would transform not just municipal policy but how the city confronts injustice, at home and abroad. Many were inspired when, as an assemblyman in May 2023 at the CUNY School of Law, Mamdani introduced the “Not On Our Dime!: Ending New York Funding of Israeli Settler Violence Act” (NOOD Act), a bill that would have prohibited New York‑registered nonprofits from using tax‑exempt status to fund Israeli settlement expansion and other violations of international law.

Mamdani And The Liberal Repackaging Of Power

In the shadow of genocide, while Gaza burns and its skies bear witness to one of the most one-sided assaults in modern history, a Muslim man ran for mayor in the heart of empire and won. People celebrated, calling it a win for progress, diversity, and even justice, as if a scheduled political election had reversed history. As if liberation had arrived not in the form of dismantling state power but by crowning someone who could speak against it politely from within its walls. Zohran Mamdani’s ascent was a familiar ritual – liberalism’s favourite act: taking the language of resistance, draining it of substance, and performing it just long enough to pacify those who still remember how to rage.

Mamdani Will Follow The Path Of AOC, Bernie, And Brandon Johnson

The disenfranchised, cast aside people of the US find hope when an AOC, Brandon Johnson, Mamdani and Bernie Sanders campaigns and wins public office. These campaigns overcame corporate backed opponents, relying on people power not corporate financing, organizing many thousands of our fellow working people to participate. Yet, possessing public office does not change the economic and class structure of this country, where the real ruling power lies. Our country’s system, on the local, state, and national level, is a government of the rich, by the rich, and for the rich.

Tell Lies, Claim Easy Victories

Zohran Mamdani’s victory was historic. So was Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s. So was Barack Obama’s. The blissful ignorance in response to Mamdani’s victory demonstrates a vast, abysmal void in revolutionary consciousness, organization, and leadership in the so-called United States. It speaks to our collective hunger for any supposed victory to grasp onto, no matter how illusory, a hunger to make ourselves feel like we have achieved something, anything, satiating our guilty selves with false hope. No matter how much he spits on the name of the Palestinian resistance, Mamdani obviously won because of the political ramifications of the Al-Aqsa Flood.

New York Times Joins White Supremacist In Attacking Mamdani

The elite liberal class are having a collective fit of hysteria at the prospect of Zohran Mamdani becoming mayor of New York City. The hand wringing caused by Mamdani’s victory in the recent Democratic Party primary proves to anyone who wasn’t paying attention, that the people allegedly represented by the democrats in fact have no representation at all. The possibility of even a small amount of liberal reformism is terrifying to the ruling class and that can clearly be seen in the way Mamdani has been treated not just by Democratic Party elected officials who don’t want to support him, but by corporate media as well.
