The Public Ministry of Venezuela issued a summons addressed to former presidential candidate Edmundo González to appear on Monday morning, for his alleged responsibility in the crimes of usurpation of electoral functions, forgery of public documents, instigation to disobedience of laws, cyber crimes, criminal association, and conspiracy.

The summons were issued on Friday, August 23, by the Office of the Attorney General of Venezuela.

“As Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced on Friday at a press conference, former candidate Edmundo González Urrutia has been summoned to give his statements regarding his alleged responsibility in the crimes of usurpation of functions, forgery of public documents, instigation to disobedience of laws, cyber crimes, criminal association, and conspiracy,” the Public Ministry reported in a statement.

It added that “González Urrutia will also have to answer for the publication of forged documents through the website www.resultadosconvenezuela.com.”

“He incurred in a clear contempt and disrespect for the Supreme Court of Justice by not responding to the summons made by its Electoral Chamber,” the statement added.

The receipt confirmation published by the Attorney General’s Office shows that the summons was received by González on Saturday, August 24, at 9:10 a.m.

The document specifies that González must appear at the Public Ministry headquarters in La Candelaria, Caracas, at 10 a.m. on Monday to give statements regarding the criminal case against him.

Attorney General: González must appear

On Friday morning, Attorney General Tarek William Saab announced that the former candidate would be summoned in the next few hours, adding that this is part of the investigation that his office is conducting into the responsibility of the extreme right in electoral crimes and usurpation of electoral functions after the presidential election of July 28.

“He must appear to give his statements about his responsibility before, during, and after July 28, for his non-recognition and disobedience of legitimate constitutional authorities,” Saab said during his press conference.
