The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) is a massive “free trade” agreement that isn’t really about trade. It’s now being negotiated behind closed doors and influenced by over 600 corporate advisors. If it passes, the TPP would have an impact on the food you eat, the air you breathe, the water you drink, and the cost of your medications. It would give the green light to global corporations that send jobs overseas, thus undermining the U.S. labor movement and creating a global race to the bottom. The TPP would undermine democracy worldwide and forever change the way we use the internet.
Fast Track is the mechanism that will allow the Obama administration to circumvent Constitutional checks and balances to ram the TPP through Congress, just like his predecessors did with NAFTA and the WTO.
One of the biggest challenges of organizing against the TPP and Fast Track is that no one knows about it. So how do we engage people whose eyes glaze over when trade is mentioned? How do we move people from signing a petition to meeting with their representative? How do we bring people together to derail Fast Track and stop the TPP?
