Protesters Disown Obama’s Visit To Argentina

Between 1,500 and 2,000 people held a protest outside the convention center La Rural in Palermo, where a business meeting organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina was made.

Protesters marched today against the visit of President Barack Obama to Argentina and burned American flags near the US Embassy in Buenos Aires and place of accommodation of the president and his family.

Between 1,500 and 2,000 demonstrators staged a protest outside the convention center La Rural in Palermo, where one organized by the American Chamber of Commerce in Argentina business meeting was held.

A few meters away is the US embassy and the diplomatic residence, the luxurious Alvear Palace Bosch, where Obama is staying, his wife Michelle, his two daughters and his mother during his visit two days after the historic trip to Cuba.

“Out Obama”, “Out vultures” -by the holdouts-, “not to pay the debt, they were some of the slogans against the presence of the president in Argentina, met hours on Thursday 40 years after the last military coup it established a bloody dictatorship (1976-83) with the support of US intelligence.

The demonstration had its moments of tension by the passion of the slogans and burning several American flags.

However, no clashes were reported with police barricades guarding the area on a security mega-deals that altered the rhythm of all the inhabitants and workers of this city by passing some 10 million people.

Obama said at a joint press conference with his Argentine counterpart Mauricio Macri, that his country has made “a lot of self-criticism” and learned lessons about the role of Washington in the past, responding uncomfortably Wednesday to a question about the Argentina dictatorship (1976-83).

“In the 70s our approach on human rights was as important as fighting communism. It was a very important issue for both Republicans and Democrats,” the president on the issue that most sensitizes Argentines on this visit said coincides with the 40th anniversary of the coup.

Macri Thursday and Obama participate in a tribute to the thousands of disappeared and killed during the dictatorship in the Memory Park.

This act will not attend the agencies participating in a march to evoke the coup in hours that Obama and his family to travel a few hours to the tourist town of Bariloche, about 1,800 km southwest of the capital
