Time for a Clean Energy Future

On February 17, 2013 the largest rally ever was held against climate change.  The rally urged President Obama to refuse to construct the northern portion of the Keystone XL Pipeline which will bring Albert tar sands to the Gulf Coast.

People attending the event came from across the country, for some, attending was no easy task.  It was a cold day in Washington, DC but the people still showed up to show their concern for climate change.

Lots of different views were represented in the crowd. Here are reprentatives of Veterans for Peace with their message.

In addition to tar sands, people came out in opposition against fracking for natural gas.

Others opposed mountain top remoal for coal

Stopping the tar sands was the dominant message of the day

Various religous groups came out

The Green Party marched with presidential candidate, Jill Stein, who said “Why should we have Obama’s back when he always stabs us in ours.”

Unfortunately, Stein did not speak from the stage as the organizers took a very pro-Obama view, adoping his “Forward” slogan, and Rev. Yearwood the MC saying “We are not here to protest Obama” and Van Jones expressing pride in working for him while saying all of his successes would be undermined if the Keystone XL was approved

What comes next? Escalation of tactics. Tar sands blockade.
