130-Mile Anti-Drone Protest Kicks Off Saturday in San Francisco; Trek Winds Through NorCal and Capitol, Ends with Protest at Beale Air Force Base
San Francisco, CA – In a first-of-a-kind, 130-mile, 10-day protest of the United States Drone Program and Global Militarization, California peace activists are walking from the Golden Gate Bridge Saturday, May 17, through the State Capitol and then to Beale Air Force Base near Marysville, arriving Monday, May 26.
A giant drone replica highlighted the kickoff news briefing at 10 a.m. Saturday.
“A Walk to Peace” will wind 125 miles through scenic California Central Valley, including the towns of Vallejo, Fairfield, Vacaville, Dixon, Davis and Sacramento.
Tentative schedule: Saturday, May 17, Golden Gate Bridge to Vallejo. Sunday, May 18, Vallejo to Fairfield. Monday, May 19, Fairfield to Pena Adobe Park.Tuesday, May 20, Pena Adobe Park to Vacaville. Wednesday, May 21, Vacaville to Dixon. Thursday, May 22, Dixon to Davis. Friday, May 23, Davis to Sacramento. Saturday, Sunday, Monday, Sacramento to Beale AFB Main Gate
Once at Beale AFB, there will be a protest and vigil at the Main Gate to protest the killing of thousands of innocent people, including hundreds of children by drone attacks in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Yemen and Somalia.
Over the past year, there have been dozens of people arrested – including nearly 2 dozen, including veterans and clergy, in April alone – at Beale AFB, which is home to the unarmed RQ-4 Global Hawk Aerial Drone, which provides targeting information to the Predator and Reaper attack killer drones.
