A protest in Shobra organised by the Rebel campaign kicks off a week of anti-government action in the run up to mass national demonstrations against Muslim Brotherhood rule 30 June
A group of protesters gather in the Cairo neighbourhood of Shobra as a week full of anti-government demonstrations gets under way.
The week will culminate in a mass protest 30 June, intended to remove President Mohamed Morsi from power.
Other protest actions this week include activists gathering yet more signatures for the anti-Muslim Brotherhood “Rebel” campaign at metro stops in Cairo, and a march from Sayed Zeinab district.
At one point in the Shobra protest squabbles and scuffles broke out between protesters, some of whom had differing opinions about what role the army should play if Morsi is indeed removed. Demonstrators eventually regrouped and began a march.
Activists have gathered around 15 million signatures against Muslim Brotherhood-affiliated President Mohamed Morsi. This is more than the 13.2 million votes Morsi got in the second round runoff of the 2012 presidential elections.
