Demand the State of New Jersey Drop the Bogus Charges today!
The attacks on the Uhuru Movement Continue.
On March 31st, 2024, Lisa Davis, vice chair of the Black Is Back Coalition for Social Justice, Peace, and Reparations, was attending a pro Palestine weekly vigil in South Orange, New Jersey, when a disturbed zionist aggressively ran towards the protestors, verbally assaulted her and aggressively got into her face.
The crowd had to intervene to make him back off.
Below are separate videos of the incident from two different angles:
It is clear from the videos that it is the zionist who was the aggressor against Lisa and the demonstrators.
But New Jersey is protecting him and is falsely charging Lisa Davis with organizing a special event without a permit and for making excessive noise while using an amplification device.
Ms. Davis denies both of these allegations as she is NOT the organizer of these vigils and as she wasn’t using an amplification device to make loud and excessive noise.
It should be noted that she was the only person of African descent in the crowd that day and is the only that the State is choosing to go after.
We ask everyone to sign the petition at tinyurl.com/BIBLisaDavis and to send emails to the officials outlined below, demanding the following:
- That the false charges against Lisa Davis be dropped!
- That South Orange and the State of NJ pay reparations to Lisa Davis for violating her first amendment free speech rights; for racially profiling her; for harassment, and for bringing false charges against her. And that these entities also pay reparations to the broader Black community in South Orange for fostering a hostile climate of harassment, racial profiling and police brutality against the Black community.
- That Officer Naturale, the officer who made the false complaint against Lisa Davis, be immediately fired and that a comprehensive criminal investigation be conducted against him for filing false reports.
- That there be a comprehensive investigation into the South Orange Police Department and the municipal prosecutor’s office of Gracia Robert Montilus
Please send emails to these officials:
- Phil Murphy, Governor of New Jersey constituent.relations@nj.gov
- Matthew J. Plantkin, NJ Attorney General Office OCS@NJOAG.gov
- Drew Skinner, NJ Office of Public Integrity and Accountability opia.siu@njdcj.org
- South Orange Mayor, Sheena Collum scollum@scollum@southorange.org
- Municipal Prosecutor Gracia Robert Montilus gmontilus@southorange.org
- South Orange Chief of Police, Ernesto Morillio emorillo@southorange.org
The Force Report, which is the most comprehensive database detailing the use of force by police in New Jersey, published a study showing that not much had changed since 1998 and that hundreds of police around the state were still using brutal force and engaging in police brutality at alarming rates. And in South Orange, it found that Black people were 844% more likely to encounter police brutality than white people.
Clearly the targeting of our Vice Chair, Lisa Davis, reflects this ongoing reality. That is why point # 3 of the Black Is Back Coalition’s 19 Point Platform for Black Self Determination calls for Black Community Control of the Police, in which the Black community defines the role of the police and organizes to mobilize our own security so that we will not have to be subjected to the brutality of outside forces of the state.
