Trump administration staffers and Cabinet members are not the only ones facing public backlash for their immigration policy along the Mexican border.

“Where are the babies, Mitch?” one protestor asked.

McConnell should have probably anticipated such a confrontation. An “Abolish ICE” rally was taking place downtown just a few miles from Bardstown Road.

Interrupting the meals of President Trump’s allies has become a new tactic for the left. High-profile staffers such as Sarah Huckabee Sanders and Kirstjen Nielsen had to abruptly leave their dinner tables last month after they learned they were unwelcome. It was these acts of dissent that sparked a debate on civility in America. Newspapers published editorials that pleaded with progressives to “let Sarah Huckabee Sanders and other public servants eat.” They decried the rise of incivility in public discourse.

McConnell’s wife, Elaine Chao, Trump’s Transportation Secretary, is all too familiar with these demonstrations. She also faced protestors as she was leaving Georgetown. Chao ordered the group of  students to leave her husband alone, while she heard questions about why they were “separating families.”
