Roe Is Down – Support Abortion Funds

NOTE: This article was first published in January of this year. In light of the Friday Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, it is important to keep supporting abortion funds.

These pro-choice reproductive justice organizations need your help.

The Supreme Court has overturned Roe v. WadeIn this moment, it’s more important than ever to support the people who will continue to provide abortion care in the South.

The court gutted the 1973 ruling that made abortion a federally protected choice in this country, but reproductive justice oriented community care will never fail us.

Abortion providers in the South have long been warning of and preparing for this moment as they’ve navigated a landscape in which safe and legal abortion access was already heavily restricted, where Black and brown pregnancies have long been criminalized, and where traveling long distances for care has been the norm for those in rural communities.

It’s more important than ever for our media to cover abortion providers without contributing to misinformation, without furthering stigma, and without exploiting individuals who need abortions.

We started this list of abortion funds that serve Southern folks, but this is just the beginning. Do you know people doing good work in the reproductive justice space? Email us at editors@scalawagmag.org or tag us @scalawagmag to share other groups that should be on this list.

In solidarity,
Scalawag
