People’s Convention Continues People’s Revolution

The 2016 election cycle has revealed a deficit of democracy in our country and a failure of our major institutions to respond to the needs of the American public. As a solution to this dilemma, a grassroots coalition of organizers is sponsoring an inclusive gathering named The People’s Convention, to be held in Philadelphia on July 23, 2016. This event will bring together regular people ready to build a more sustainable, cooperative and democratic country together. With your help, we hope to take the first steps towards reclaiming our country for the people it is supposed to represent.

Since our government should speak for all of us regardless of party affiliation, the event is based upon a platform of issues, not a particular party or personality. The corporate media, driven by profit and politicians’ hunger for power has alienated us from the political process for long enough; now is the time for us all to come together as Americans.

The People’s Convention is a pro-democracy event intended to set the stage for a new era of people-powered politics. Our plan is the ratification of a collectively written People’s Platform. This platform will consist of the issues which are most pressing to our country’s civic health.

We also hope to create a space for grassroots organizers and organizations to network and build relationships. This networking should establish the foundation of an ongoing movement intended to transform American politics for the better.

The event is open to the public. If we meet our fundraising goals, admission will be free.

We need you to be a part of this historic effort. Here’s how you can help.

Our Mission

The People’s Revolution (TPR) is a coalition of grassroots organizers and activists who believe this moment in history is too important to leave up to the decision making of the political class.

Our purpose is to establish a sustainable, grassroots movement to increase issue awareness and provide channels of direct engagement with the political process for all of us.

By providing structure, communication and organizing tools, we will coordinate action to influence the political decisions that affect our lives.

Core Principles

The People’s Revolution is an organization founded on the following core principles:

  • Trust
  • Respect
  • Unity of purpose
  • Intersectionality
  • Non-violence
  • Cooperation
  • Resolving conflict
  • Commitment to the group
  • Active participation
  • Self empowerment
  • Patience
  • Sustainability

These principles inform the decisions we make as a group and collective decisions should always be compared to these principles to maintain group fidelity.

Platform

TPR’s platform will be a set of policy proposals based upon our core principles. It will be ratified through democratic process.

Organizing Strategy

We will convene in Philadelphia prior to the DNC convention in July 2016. The goal of this meeting will be to ratify a People’s Platform, with the potential to influence DNC convention outcomes and to lay the groundwork for a national grassroots movement. In addition, we will demand that the Bernie 2016 presidential campaign collaborate effectively with the grassroots in order to help us build and sustain the political revolution, which is essential to revitalizing our democracy.

Party Affiliation

The People’s Revolution is an omnipartisan movement that is inclusive to all parties and people. “The People” refers to all people, regardless of how they have affiliated politically in the past. If you work with us and advocate for us to further our platform, you’re a part of the revolution.
