The Honduran presidential candidate of the Liberty and Refoundation (LIBRE) party assured that her party will demonstrate its victory.
With the 19,167 tally sheets issued from every ballot box in the country.
During closing campaign events this weekend, Moncada—the official LIBRE presidential candidate—accused the Preliminary Electoral Results Transmission System (TREP) of being “hacked” by the country’s two-party establishment in an effort to “steal the elections” scheduled for Nov. 30.
According to Moncada, a plan is underway to insert pre-fabricated voting records into the TREP system to manipulate preliminary results. In response, she urged party members to remain mobilized and actively defend the vote.
She called on poll workers to photograph each tally sheet submitted to TREP and retain a physical copy of the official closing tally sheet as irrefutable proof. “We are going to conduct our count with the physical tally sheets—with the 19,167 tally sheets from each ballot box, we will demonstrate our victory,” she stated.
Moncada warned that the most critical phase will be the transfer of electoral materials from Honduras’ 18 departments and 298 municipalities, villages and hamlets to the capital, Tegucigalpa. Although the Armed Forces will escort the convoys, she insisted local leaders, candidates and coordinators must accompany them to prevent tampering.
The teacher and lawyer emphasized that the official final count is based solely on original physical tally sheets—and that safeguarding them will guarantee LIBRE’s victory.
In her closing speech, Moncada pledged to continue the social progress achieved under President Xiomara Castro. She highlighted maintaining public investment and defending national sovereignty over strategic sectors.
She affirmed that the National Electric Energy Company (ENEE) “must continue providing free energy” and pledged to advance infrastructure projects—including dams, highways and tourism developments. She also expressed solidarity with Indigenous communities, calling them “pillars of the resistance,” and vowed they would be a priority in her government.
Meanwhile, opposition candidates held their final rallies. Salvador Nasralla of the Liberal Party spoke on the outskirts of the capital, while Nasry Asfura of the National Party held his event in Olanchito, Yoro.
Nasralla, a former TV presenter, drew comparisons to the governance models of El Salvador’s Nayib Bukele and Argentina’s Javier Milei. He recently toured the United States to seek support.
Asfura, a former Tegucigalpa mayor known as “Papi a la orden,” has faced embezzlement allegations and was named in the 2021 Pandora Papers.
Some 5.8 million Hondurans are eligible to vote Nov. 30 for president, legislators and municipal officials.
President Xiomara Castro on official visit to Mexico
On Monday, Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum received Honduran President Xiomara Castro in a brief ceremony at the Courtyard of Honor in Mexico City’s National Palace, marking the start of Castro’s official visit.
The leaders sang their national anthems, posed for the official photograph and held a closed-door meeting. According to Mexico’s morning press briefing, they discussed regional issues of mutual interest for Latin America and the Caribbean.
Sheinbaum noted the two have built a friendship since Castro’s previous visit—a relationship that now culminates as Castro’s term ends and Honduras approaches a contested election.
The meeting comes amid widespread concerns over attempts by Honduras’ far right to undermine the electoral process.
