“Women are disrupting this hearing today because our lives are at risk.”

Leaders of the Women’s March are determined to disrupt Brett Kavanuagh’s confirmation hearing for the Supreme Court and, while their presence was seen and heard on Day 1, more than 30 women were arrested yesterday.

Alongside Women’s March co-founders Linda Sarsour and Bob Bland, women from many different backgrounds, including women from 20 different woman’s organizations from across the nation, gathered in Washington, D.C. at Kavanuagh’s confirmation hearing. Their goal: “to look our Senators in the eye and remind them that women across America are watching.” According to a press release, “women were dragged out of the hearing without warning from police officers.”

“Women are disrupting this hearing today because our lives are at risk,” Rachel O’Leary Carmona, Chief Operating Officer of Women’s March, said. “Women will die if Kavanaugh is confirmed.”

Women’s March leaders call Kavanaugh a “dangerous pick for the Supreme Court.” They believe he will “roll back rights that women have worked for a generation to secure.” With the future of women’s rights, voting rights, gun safety, LGBTQIA+ rights and the environment in the hands of the Supreme Court, women across the country are fighting for future generations – “We cannot allow our children and grandchildren to have fewer rights than we do.”

“Politicians on both sides of the aisle need to know – if you don’t stop Kavanaugh, we will make you pay in November and in 2020,” Carmona said in a press release. “If you’re a Democrat, we’ll primary you – if you’re a Republican, your seat will be flipped. The gloves are off, the rings are on, and we’re ready to resist the fight that chose us.”

As the confirmation hearing continues, women and other supporters from the Women’s March will continue their disruption.

“Hundreds of women from across the country are still in line waiting to access the Kavanaugh hearings – and we will not stop,” Carmona said.
