The Gaza Humanitarian Foundation is behind the killing of over 1,000 aid-seekers at distribution sites since it started operations.
Activists in the US gathered outside the Virginia home of John Acree, the director of the notorious Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF), to denounce the organisation’s actions amid Israel’s forced starvation of Gaza.
More than 1,000 Palestinians seeking aid have been killed at the GHF’s distribution sites since the group began operations in May.
Contractors and Israeli forces at the sites have opened deadly fire at civilians, used tear gas, as well as artillery and mortar rounds.
The protest comes as 123 Palestinians have died due to starvation and malnutrition-related reasons as Israel continues to block emergency aid into the enclave.
In May, the GHF announced the appointment of Acree as its interim executive director. In June, the foundation also appointed the pro-Israel reverend John Moore as its executive director, with Acree continuing as co-director and overseeing operations on the ground.
Several international aid and rights groups have slammed the GHF as a “death trap”, urging for UN organisations such as UNRWA and UNICEF to take over operations due to their long-standing work and experience in the enclave.
The rights groups noted that the GHF’s system is not safe for Palestinians and does not reach the most vulnerable communities.
It has also been rejected as the “militarisation of humanitarian aid” with aid workers also accusing the foundation of endangering the lives of civilians as well as degrading and dehumanising Palestinians.
The protesters carried food boxes as symbols of the ones being distributed in Gaza, bearing the words “GHF is a killing field”. Others held placards reading “stop starving Gaza and free Palestine”.
Many of the activists demanded that the foundation be closed, while shouting that Acree is “complicit in genocide”, a “war criminal” and a “murderer”.

The protest lasted over two hours, with activists vowing to continue peacefully demonstrating until the GHF ceases operations and closes down.
According to reports, a police officer at the scene warned the demonstrators against stopping outside the house.
The protesters moved in a circular motion to avoid stopping, citing their constitutional right to walk in the street, reports added.
One of the protesters, identified as Mohammed from the Palestinian Youth Movement, told The New Arab’s Arabic language sister publication, Al-Araby Al-Jadeed, that the GHF is a “hoax” and is “behind the famine in Gaza, causing the slaughter and killing of over 1,000 Palestinians”.
Addressing those in Gaza, he said: “We feel your pain and we will not stop confronting those who are causing this famine, slaughter and killing in Gaza.”
Another protester, Adam, said: “Palestinians are begging for food while thousands of trucks carrying food are waiting at the border to enter,” he said, adding it is a “man-made famine…they blocked all entrances and exits and said the GHF is here to save you, but they are lying. Every time they announce the distribution of aid, more than 100 innocent people are killed.”
Philip Farah, a Palestinian-American at the protest, also weighed in on the killings linked to the GHF.
“My family members were killed in Gaza while they were staying in churches. One of my family members named Farah was targeted by bullets in front of a church by an Israeli soldier – who didn’t let anyone rescue her. The soldier shot at anyone who tried to rescue her”.
Israel has killed over 59,676 people since October 2023, but the true death toll is believed to be much higher, with thousands of uncounted victims trapped under the rubble of destroyed buildings.
