(Era of Wisdom) Activist group New Era Detroit took thousands of bottles of water to Flint, Michigan on Sunday, successfully providing residents with clean drinking water in the face of an unprecedented water contamination disaster.
Flint residents have been afflicted with the choices of drinking highly toxic water, not drinking water, or seeking water elsewhere as the people who created the problem have yet to offer an effective solution. Toxic lead was found in residents’ blood a month ago.
In December the Anti Media reported:
“Flint River is one of the filthiest rivers in Michigan. Over the years, it has housed raw sewage, tires, old refrigerators — which residents have attempted to sift out — and lead. In spite of this, officials declared it safe to drink in April 2014, when they switched the supply to the tainted river. Shortly after the April switch, residents complained the water emitted a foul odor and was cloudy in appearance, but local and state officials insisted the water was safe.”
Do you expect the government to save you in a time of crisis? History shows that common people have better incentive to remedy a situation like this.
Here to solve the problem, we have people who actually care about the residents of Flint: highly active activists.
These are some pictures they posted on social media. New Era Detroit‘s Zeek said:
“Together we were able to give away over 23k bottles water to our family in Flint. We were also able to talk to the people and hear some of their true issues and concerns with all that is going on. We’ll be returning soon to put more work in and deliver more waters. Peace and love. #NewEraDetroit #FlintWaterCrisis“
This is the true meaning of “power to the people.”
All people have to do is utilize their power, put forth effort, build unity, work strategically, and the illusion of needing government will fade as they build their own structures of society.
New Era Detroit is known for helping their community and other Michigan communities in ways most people don’t realize they have the power to do. There is much inspiration to be acquired from watching them rise.
Last week NED created a viral video when police targeted them for feeding the homeless, and a few weeks before that they were teaching activists everywhere how to hold regular calls to action. If you want to support their efforts, you can donate here.
Please share this with as many people as possible, in hopes that more people will be inspired to take action and build strength in their communities.
