Chinese Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng warned Canada’s ambassador in Beijing, John McCallum, on Saturday of the serious consequences that will befall the imprisonment of Meng Wanzhou, executive director of the technological giant Huawei.

In presenting a new protest, the official reiterated the demand to release it immediately and protect their legitimate and legal rights, or otherwise the American nation will be held responsible for the case.

“This is a serious violation of his legal rights (…) Meng’s detention is illegal, irrational and despicable,” the deputy minister added.

Le Yucheng quoted the diplomat after adjourning until Monday the hearing that would decide the bail of the executive.

Prosecutor John Gibb-Carsley objected and called on the court to deny that remedy by ensuring that Meng ‘runs an extreme risk of escape’ from Canada because the United States wants his extradition.

Washington asked Ottawa to detain her under the alleged charge of violating the sanctions imposed against Iran, for which they could sentence her to up to 30 years in prison.

The Canadian justice made the arrest last day 1 in the airport of Vancouver, while Meng was preparing to take a flight with connection to Mexico.

Huawei denied the accusation and ensured compliance with all the regulations of the territories where it operates.

In addition, the Government of China recalled that as a permanent member of the UN Security Council it always implemented the resolutions approved by that body, but at the same time it rejected the imposition of unilateral measures by one State against another.

However, he ruled out that the case would affect the ongoing bilateral negotiations with the United States to seek a satisfactory solution to the disagreements, especially in the economic-commercial sphere.

But observers warn about the consequences for Canada because it is under pressure from Washington to stop buying Huawei equipment for connection 5G, the fastest connection .

Coincidentally, Japan – an Asian ally of Washington – is on plans to veto the acquisition of devices manufactured by that company and its compatriot ZTE for public entities.
