Amnesty Shows Support For Defend Our Juries As Group’s Site Taken Down

Defend Our Juries have confirmed they expect more than 500 people to take part in Saturday’s Lift The Ban pro-Palestine Action protest, which will take place in and around Parliament Square in London at 1pm. Meanwhile, Amnesty has intervened in the situation – after the Met Police threatened all participants with arrest. And on top of all this, Defend Our Juries website has been taken down – showing that any dissent from the Zionist lobby’s agenda in the UK will not be tolerated. As SKWAWKBOX wrote: The defendourjuries.org website has been disabled by apparent government legal threat to the site’s hosting provider. The site provided legal advice to those affected by the government’s ‘lawfare’ war on freedom of speech and protest about Israel’s genocide in Gaza, informed potential jurors about their rights in court to decide their verdict regardless of orders and pressure from the Establishment – and also campaigned for the de-proscription of Palestine Action, the anti-genocide direct action group banned as a terrorist organisation in an unprecedented, and Israel-lobby-driven, move last month that makes support for it a criminal offence punishable by up to fourteen years imprisonment.

On July 1, British Home Secretary Yvette Cooper announced that Palestine Action (PA), a crusading campaign effort, would be proscribed as a terrorist group. Describing the movement as “dangerous,” she charged that its “orchestration and enaction of aggressive and intimidatory attacks against businesses, institutions and the public” had “crossed the thresholds established in the Terrorism Act 2000.” As a result, PA is now the country’s first protest group to be formally branded a terrorist entity, placing it in the same league as al-Qaida and ISIS.

On Wednesday 14 May, environmental groups including Extinction Rebellion met delegates at Europe’s largest insurance brokers conference in Manchester Central with a colourful and dramatic protest. They were there to demand the industry stops backing fossil fuel projects. And what better way to call out flush fossil fuel financiers than to put a sinking Lamborghini at the event’s front door? A new report by Boycott Bloody Insurance shows that there are 33 British insurance companies active in large fossil fuel projects. Just five companies had invested $6.5bn. In April, campaigners in Manchester celebrated the decision by Chubb to rule out backing the controversial East African Crude Oil Pipeline.

The idea for the country’s first cooperative rail service came to Alex Lawrie in 2004 after another frustrating trip across Somerset. Having moved to Yeovil four years earlier with his young family, his job as a cooperative development manager involved daily trips across the south-west trying to set up member-owned businesses. A reluctant motorist, he quickly became frustrated with the rail service he was depending on to get around. “It baffled me, trains came at seemingly random intervals, there were only a few trains serving a big town like Yeovil, hours would pass without a train coming,” Lawrie says.

On Monday, May 20th, the UK High Court will decide whether Julian Assange will be allowed to appeal the decision allowing his extradition before the UK Courts. The High Court will first hear arguments from the defense and the prosecution regarding the “assurances” provided by the U.S. Julian Assange’s final appeal hearing was held on February 20th​ and 21st​ this year, upon which the judges made a ruling on March 26th​, provisionally allowing Julian Assange to appeal the decision to extradite him to the U.S., but only if the U.S. doesn’t provide sufficient assurances that he will not be sentenced to death and that he will be allowed to rely on the First Amendment that is, his right to free speech.

On Day One of Julian Assange’s attempt to appeal Britain’s order to extradite him to the United States, his lawyers laid out a timeline that exposed U.S. motives to destroy the journalist who revealed their high-level state crimes. Before two High Court judges in the cramped, wood-paneled Courtroom 5 at the Royal Courts of Justice, Assange’s lawyers argued on Tuesday that two judges had seriously erred in the case on a number of grounds necessitating an appeal of the home secretary’s decision to extradite Assange to the United States. High to the left of the court, next to oak shelves with neat rows of law books, was an empty iron cage.  The court said it had invited Assange to either attend in person or via video link from Belmarsh Prison, where he has been locked up on remand for nearly five years.
