Below is the statement from the Association of the Million Rural Women and Landless, a member of La Via Campesina, regarding the “Steadfastness” Overland Convoy to break the siege on Gaza:
The overland “Steadfastness” Convoy to break the siege on Gaza will depart from Tunisia on the morning of Monday, June 9, 2025, under the slogan: “The chains must be broken.” The convoy will travel through Tunisia, Libya, and Egypt, with the goal of reaching the Rafah crossing.
As a member of La Via Campesina’s Arab and North Africa Region, the Association of the Million Rural Women and Landless (MRWL) is a key partner in the organization, support, and mobilization for this popular overland convoy. The convoy coincides with the Global March to Gaza and the Freedom Flotilla, where freedom-loving people from around the world will gather at Rafah on June 14, 2025, in solidarity with the Palestinian cause.
MRWL considers this overland convoy a popular act of resistance and a real, concrete show of support for Gaza and the entire Palestinian people in their struggle to stop the ongoing genocide, starvation, killing, and destruction carried out by the occupying Zionist entity for more than 600 days, with the backing of the U.S. and Europe, and the complicit silence and betrayal of Arab regimes.
The Association of the Million Rural Women and Landless announces that a delegation representing its leadership and various branches will take part in the convoy all the way to the Rafah crossing.
It also announces that an international delegation of La Via Campesina leaders—including members from Colombia, France, and Indonesia—will join the first stage of the convoy, from Tunisia to Libya.
This participation reflects the deep and practical commitment of the Association and the international peasant movement to supporting the Palestinian cause, and to taking concrete, on-the-ground action in the struggle to stop the genocide, liberate Palestine, and establish its independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
This is a foundational and unwavering commitment of La Via Campesina since its establishment in 1993, and of the Million Rural Women, whose members see Palestine as the core and central cause in the broader struggle for land, freedom, and national dignity.
