Farmers On The March

By Vijay Prashad for Left World - From all parts of the country, Indian kisans will descend upon Delhi on November 24. They are marching as part of a Kisan Sangharsh Jatha, organised by the All-India Kisan Sabha. The farmers began their Jatha – their march – at the corners of the country, holding meetings as they go along to spread the word about the harsh attack on rural India. This attack has been on-going for the past twenty-five years – with cuts at rural credit, push to consolidation of farms and the emergence of a new kind of predatory factory farming.

North Dakota Voters Side With Family Farms

By Alex Mcleese for In These Times - North Dakota voters have rejected a measure that would have permitted corporations to own and to operate dairy and pork farms of up to 640 acres. On Tuesday, 75.7 percent of voters opposed Measure 1. North Dakota is one of only nine states that prohibit or limit corporate farming. A 1932 law has long forbidden nonfamily corporate ownership of farms. But in March of last year, the state legislature passed a bill that loosened restrictions for dairy and pork farms only.

Farms Not Fracking At Pennsylvania Farm Show

By Staff of Buck Local News - The Spence family is one of many traveling to Harrisburg for a “Farms, Not Fracking” rally at the opening of the Pennsylvania Farm Show on Saturday, January 9 in Harrisburg. Farmers from across the state, joined by supporters such as the Spences, will converge to bring attention to the negative impact fracking is having on the $2.35 billion a year agriculture industry in Pennsylvania. The Farms Not Fracking rally is being organized by Pennsylvanians Against Fracking, a statewide coalition working to stop fracking.
