US-British Warplanes Launch Airstrikes Across Yemen

By attacking Yemen, the US, and its allies have tried to defend Israel, maintain their interests in West Asia region.

And undermine the capabilities of the Axis of Resistance.

The United States and the United Kingdom launched joint airstrikes on different cities across Yemen, including the capital Sanaa, Hodeidah Dhamar, and Baidha governorates on Friday, October 4.

According to Yemen’s Ansar Allah-run news network Almasirah, a series of US-UK airstrikes hit the Al-Siyanah military camp north of Sanaa, the airport and Al-Khathib areas west of Hodeidah city, several areas south of Dhamar, and Mukayras district southeast of Baidha.

The US Central Command (CENTCOM), responsible for the US forces in West Asia, wrote on X on Friday: “US Central Command (CENTCOM) forces conducted strikes on 15 Houthi targets in Iranian-backed Houthi-controlled areas of Yemen today at about 5 pm (Sanaa time). These targets included Houthi offensive military capabilities. These actions were taken to protect freedom of navigation and make international waters safer and more secure for US, coalition, and merchant vessels.”

The spokesperson for the Government of Change and Construction in Yemen Hashim Sharafaddein denounced the aggression on his country in a statement on Friday, describing it as a “desperate attempt to intimidate the Yemeni people.” “We affirm that these attacks will not break Yemen’s resolve, and we will continue to resist the enemies with all the strength we possess,” Sharafaddein said. In his statement, the spokesperson emphasised the Yemeni government’s commitment to maintaining its resistance until Israel stops its aggression against Gaza and Lebanon.

Friday’s aggression on Yemen is not the first to be launched by the US and the UK. The countries have launched a number of joint aerial attacks against Yemen during the last several months. However, the recent intense US-British airstrikes came amidst an unprecedented escalation provoked by Israel against Gaza’s support fronts in the region, namely the Yemeni support front, the Lebanese support front, as well as the Islamic Resistance in Iraq, and the Islamic Republic of Iran. The US and its allies have for years had existential concerns about the possible expansion of Iran’s influence in the region. The Axis of Resistance forces have validated those fears, demonstrating that they can materially threaten western imperialist interests in the region.

Since November 2023, several western countries, particularly those supporting Israel, have endured economic losses due to the blockade, which Yemen’s Ansar Allah imposed on the Red Sea aiming at increasing international pressure on Israel to end its aggression against Gaza. Nonetheless, the US-led coalition has decided to further fuel Israel’s mass-killing machine with unlimited military and political support, and to become a partner in its one-year-long genocide.
