Your Mind Is A Battlefield: Decolonize It To Prevent Global Catastrophe!

It's a great honor for me to join you in this extraordinary, historical moment of celebration and reflection on the 75th anniversary of the founding of the PRC. As has been said, we are seeing changes unseen in a century.  Changes both great and terrible. We are currently seeing the unravelling of Empire--and its last desperate, violent, hideous death rattle. We are seeing the unmasking of 500 years of western "civilization", and the laying bare of its hypocrisy and unspeakable brutality. We are seeing the true face of capitalist imperialism, not its made up public relations face, but its resting bastard face. It's not pretty. One of the precipitating factors of the end of Empire--not the only one, but a very important one, because it allows countries to resist hegemony together--is the rise of China.

Blocking The Doors Of The Nuclear Ban Treaty Blockers

The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons (TPNW) now has seventy “states parties” and two dozen governments moving to see it ratified. The Entry Into Force anniversary will be celebrated all over the world as the best means of preventing accidental or deliberate detonations of the most poisonous and overwhelmingly destructive weapons in human history. (Universalization would also end today’s regular use of nuclear weapons which are employed by nine governments the way bank robbers use a pistol: without pulling the trigger, they still get the loot. It’s no deterrence but armed robbery.)

Non-Aligned Movement Celebrates Sixty Years

On October 11, 2021, delegations representing the governments of more than 105 nations, nearly all of the global South, met in Belgrade, Serbia to commemorate the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement sixty years ago in the capital of the former Yugoslavia.  The commemorative Summit was addressed by President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan, the current president of the Non-Aligned Movement; Aleksandar Vucic, President of Serbia, which hosted the event; Indonesian Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, whose nation played an important role in the founding of the Movement; UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres; among others.  Several speakers criticized the accumulation of COVID-19 vaccines by rich Western countries, calling for more solidarity and a fairer distribution.

The Sandinista Revolution Reaches 42 Years Of Victories

On Monday, Nicaragua celebrates the 42nd anniversary of the victory of the revolution led by the Sandinista National Liberation Front (FSLN), which overthrew the U.S.-backed dictatorship of Anastasio Somoza on July 19, 1979. The celebrations began on Sunday with a night party at the Faith Square next to Xolotlan Lake, where citizens gathered to dance, eat and drink among revolutionary sounds emitted from speakers. Nicaragua’s vice president Rosario Murillo said that her administration promoted over 5,000 cultural and recreational activities, which will include vigils and mass concerts. On this day, Nicaraguans wave red-black flags everywhere to remember the heroes of an anti-imperialist struggle that began with Cesar Augusto Sandino in the 1920s.

Peace Vigil Marks 40th Year At The White House

Washington DC — The Activists at the Peace Vigil cut cake and shared stories of their experiences at the nation’s longest running vigil for peace near the White House on June 3. It was on this date in 1981 when William Thomas began his 24-hour vigil against nuclear weapons and the war machine 4 decades ago. His vision to keep watch on the North Portico with a round-the-clock presence at the White House and to pressure then President Ronald Reagan to decommission nuclear weapons and to work for world peace, has lasted through seven presidencies. Nobody expected it to last this long but it has endured against improbable odds.
