Video: Bomb Detonated at First Nation’s Activist Camp in Canada

A small homemade explosion was detonated at the Unist'ot'en Camp last night about 10:20 pm. The culprits left the scene before facing any of the defenders. Efforts to keep the tensions in check are being stretched to its limits. Sentries are on duty all night to ensure that the perpetrators do not return while the defenders attempt to rest for the evening. Everyone is doing well and we remain optimistic that the Creator will continue to look after us all. The Unist'ot'en Camp is a resistance community whose purpose is to protect sovereign Wet'suwet'en territory from several proposed pipelines from the Tar Sands Gigaproject and shale gas from Hydraulic Fracturing Projects in the Peace River Region.

First Nations Accuse BC Of Violating Int’l Law By Issuing Enbridge Permits

The Yinka Dene Alliance (YDA) is accusing the British Columbia government of violating international law by issuing permits to Enbridge Inc. for drilling and tree removal in their territories along the proposed path for the Northern Gateway pipeline, despite their opposition and the lack of consultation on the proposed pipeline. If approved, the pipeline would run from Edmonton, Alberta to Kitimat on British Columbia’s northern coastline, potentially carrying 525,000 barrels of petroleum per day. Alberta is keen for the pipeline to proceed as it targets new markets in Asia. The YDA, whose members' territories make up 25% of the proposed Northern Gateway pipeline route, made the accusations in a 15-page submission to the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples, James Anaya, who will be making an official visit to Canada from October 7 to 15, 2013.

Idle No More Calls For Mass Action On October 7, 2013

Idle No More organizers recently attended and participated in an important meeting of sixty Indigenous land defenders and their allies representing front line struggles from across Canada. The meeting named by organizers “Building Unity to Action” took place on August 17, 2013 in Toronto, Ontario on the traditional Anishinaabe Territory of the New Credit First Nation. This was a strategic & tactical planning meeting organized by Idle No More-Toronto and Defenders of the Land to crystallize a plan for fall action. One of the primary outcomes of this historic meeting was consensus by all participants to collectively put out a call to all Native and non-Native supporters to join in a mass day of action on Oct 7th, 2013. This day marks the 250th Anniversary of the British Royal Proclamation, which lead to the founding of this country they call Canada - a country founded on indigenous lands.
