NED Boasts Of ‘Laying the Groundwork For Nicaraguan Insurrection’

As Nicaraguan student protest leaders meet with neoconservatives in Washington, DC, a publication funded by the US government’s regime change arm, the National Endowment for Democracy (NED), boasts of spending millions of dollars “laying the groundwork for insurrection” against Daniel Ortega. The Nicaraguan students’ junket to Washington was paid for by Freedom House, a US government-funded NED partner whose agenda typically aligns with the neoconservative wing of the American foreign policy establishment. Freedom House crafted an itinerary for the students that culminated with a photo-op with some of the most hawkish Republicans in Washington: Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, and Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen.

Open Letter to Amnesty International by a Former Amnesty International Prisoner of Conscience

Nicaragua’s close ties with Venezuela, Cuba, Russia, and especially China, with whom the country signed a contract to build a canal, the other main reason the United States is after the Sandinistas, is Nicaragua’s highly successful economic model, which represents an existential threat to the neoliberal economic order imposed by the U.S. and its allies. Despite always being among the poorest nations in the American continent and the world, Nicaragua has managed, since Ortega returned to power in 2007, to cut poverty by three quarters. Prior to the protests in April, the country’s economy sustained a steady annual economic growth of about 5% for several years, and the country had the third fastest-growing economy in Latin America, and was one of the safest nations in the region. The government’s infrastructural upgrades have facilitated trade among Nicaragua’s poorest citizens; they have created universal access to education: primary, secondary, and university; there are programs on land, housing, nutrition, and more; the healthcare system, while modest, is not only excellent but accessible to everyone.

Letter From Nicaragua: A Catastrophic Well-Orchestrated Event Is Occurring

I am completely certain that this is a coup d’etat and given the present state of things, I am not surprised the Ortega’s have been left somewhat stunned. With mobs roaming the street wielding knives and mortars I do not blame them for constructing a barrier. With the dialogue abandoned, the Truth Commission rejected, the international community failing to be at all constructive, they are in a tight spot... What does surprise me is that few seem to see this catastrophe for the well-orchestrated event which in my opinion it so clearly is. I would not even say the US is the primary backer of the events, they are just there in the background. It is the right-wing within Nicaragua with a level of antipathy toward the Ortegas that cannot be overstated who have everything to gain and nothing to lose.

The Propaganda And Economic Attacks On Venezuela Continue After Election

When I read the Foreign Policy article referenced in the first paragraph I was amazed at the how many false myths could be contained in one article. Then I saw the author was José R. Cárdenas who was the acting assistant administrator for Latin America at the notorious regime change agency, the U.S. Agency for International Development in the George W. Bush administration. He's also worked for the right-wing American Enterprise Institute and the Organization of American States, which the US uses as a cover to control Latin America. So, he is well-steeped in anti-Venezuela regime change propaganda. Cardenas was working on Latin American issues during the US-backed 2002 US-backed coup of Hugo Chavez. I was very pleased to see Roger's article because Cárdenas and his propaganda needed to be pointed out.

Rebellion Or Counter-Revolution: Made In US Or In Nicaragua?

Many wonder if the United States is involved in the student protests of the past month in Nicaragua which attempted to destabilize the country. Western media writes nothing about the issue, while at the same time similar scenarios have played out in Venezuela, Brazil, Cuba, Honduras, Bolivia and other countries in which the left has made progress. At this moment, three Nicaraguan students are touring Europe and Sweden in search of support for their campaign. At least one of the students represents an organization funded and created by the United States. There is much that indicates that these are not just spontaneous protests. There are many indications that organizations led by the United States waited for the right moment to create chaos, and exacerbate the contradictions to destabilize the democratically elected government of Nicaragua.

What’s Washington Really Doing in Armenia? Color Revolution Against Moscow?

Ironically, what nominally sparked the protests was the action of Sargysan to in effect do what Turkey’s Erdogan has done, only in reverse. He and his parliamentary majority party managed to strip the office of President of almost all but ceremonial roles, while giving actual decision powers to the office of Prime Minister. That he managed just before he himself became Prime Minister. Reaction from Moscow to the ongoing protests until now has evidently been muted following a statement that it won’t get involved in Armenian internal affairs. At this point, despite the fact that Sargysan resigned as Prime Minister and did not submit himself as candidate to oppose Pashinyan in the May 1 parliament vote, Pashinyan fell short of the majority needed to be named Prime Minister.

US Regime Changes Becomes Brazenly Obvious To The World

By the end of World War II, the United States had become a serial meddler in the affairs of the nations of the world, friend and foe alike. American intelligence services took particular aim at Third World and Western countries with large Communist Parties, and at countries on the other side of what used to be called “the Iron Curtain.” Meddling there took some doing before the implosion of the Soviet Union.  It still does in China and North Korea, and in countries with strong states, like Iran, that resist American domination.  Even so, with the Soviet Union gone, the European component of the formerly Communist world became easy prey. It was not until the Obama period that the extent of the transformation became too obvious to miss. This was especially evident in Ukraine, a former Soviet republic, adjacent to Russia, deeply connected, historically and culturally, to the old Russian and Soviet empires. In these circumstances, what fair-minded person could blame the Russians for wanting to meddle in our affairs?
