Human Rights Fraud From Ukraine To Nicaragua

Current Western human rights industry practice has nothing to do with establishing the truth. Increasingly in recent years, US and allied elites have sought to legitimize illegal aggression by exploiting human rights motifs in their attempts to recolonize the majority world. In any given crisis, human rights NGOs funded by the US and allied corporate elites and governments deploy sensationalist false claims, for example of police murdering peaceful protestors, so as to create a cognitive limbo of doubt and suspicion aimed at disabling opposition to the West's recolonization campaigns. Over the medium and long term, the steady drip of false accusations against countries resisting recolonization, like Syria and Iran, or Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, creates false memories, corrupting and distorting the historical record and obscuring the West's crimes against those and so many other countries in the majority world.

Transparency International Silent On Jailed Transparency Journalist Assange

Berlin, Germany - On a cool July day, the Berlin neighborhood where Transparency International’s global headquarters is situated feels a thousand miles away from London’s Belmarsh Prison. But it is not just the pleasant setting a few blocks from the Spree River that makes the influential NGO seem so detached from the maximum security penitentiary’s most famous inmate, Wikileaks founder Julian Assange.  Transparency International has been vocal in defending jailed opposition activists in states like Zimbabwe, Russia, and Venezuela.

‘Complicity Is Horrifying,’ No Justice No Pride Action

By No Justice No Pride. On October 28th, the Human Rights Campaign held its 21st annual “national dinner,” a lavish $400-per-plate fundraiser at the Washington, DC convention center. Celebrities, corporate CEO’s, bankers, and politicians cam together for a night of self-congratulatory celebration, raising money for an organization that for decades has worked to achieve its narrow vision of equality that ignores the lived realities of most of the trans and queer community. HRC’s national dinner has been one of the most glaring examples of the mainstream LGBT movement’s myopic attempt to align itself with big corporations, weapons manufacturers, out of touch politicians, predatory banks, and wealthy donors. This year is no different, just look at the dinner’s Presenting Sponsor: Wells Fargo.

How The Big Greens Contain & Dissolve Resistance

The mainstream environmental “movement” in the US has done almost nothing to counter the political and economic conditions that make participation in their contrived organizing spaces inaccessible to many people from the very communities bearing the brunt of degradation and state violence. At the same time, these hyper-visible Big Greens draw attention, recognition, and visibility away from localized and community-based grassroots organizing. In fact, these white-led liberal elite NGOs have time and again refused to take direction from primarily-impacted communities and have incorporated racist and colonialist elements directly into their recruitment tactics. Silencing the voices of leaders of indigenous communities and communities of color while often simultaneously using their images and appropriating bits and pieces of their cultures is a deeply entrenched mode of operation for many Big Greens. They often mash together multiple Indigenous cultures as if they were one, a method that reels in their target consumers, who often possess deeply misguided ideas of “Native Americans as the first environmentalists” and who can often be seen engaged in reformist “support work” that thinly veils their commitment to the settler colonial project.

EDF Sells Green Cred To Walmart For $66 Million

Aside from Walmart itself, there is no louder and more enthusiastic cheerleader for the retail giant’s sustainability campaign than Environmental Defense Fund. A quick perusal of the news over the last few weeks finds EDF issuing a press release about Walmart’s green leadership, praising its environmental boldness in a Fortune interview, backing its solar claims in a Fast Company article, and headlining alive chat about Walmart hosted by The Guardian. EDF, one of the nation’s largest and best-known environmental organizations, is Walmart’s right-hand man in the green game. It turns out, unlike most Walmart jobs, that’s a pretty lucrative gig to have. Since 2005, EDF has received $66 million from the Walton Family Foundation.

A Perspective On Working For The Energy Action Coalition

At this convergence, the EAC staff member promised the group that EAC would provide housing and transportation for a delegation of youth from Pine Ridge to attend Power Shift. Jenna spent countless hours getting this arranged, and two weeks prior to the conference was told there would be no money available for this delegation because it was “too last minute.” Meanwhile, I observed many other scholarships be awarded during the same time period. This seemed to me to be an intentional exclusion of a group of people rather than a logistical issue. The colonial behavior demonstrated by EAC and this staff member is repulsive and disgusting. It is fundamentally wrong to send representatives from a big green NGO comfortably situated far away from the frontlines into a community that has been subject to dehumanization, marginalization, and extermination for centuries to train people how to organize and make promises that they can’t keep.
