Big Beautiful Bill

The Shutdown Is Over, But Millions Are Set To Lose Food Stamps

The roughly 42 million Americans who rely on food stamps did not receive their November 1 SNAP benefits as the government shutdown dragged on. The missed payments came just as the holiday season began, leaving many families struggling to put food on the table. Lines at food banks backed up traffic across the country. The Trump administration defied federal court orders to restore full funding to the program before the Supreme Court’s conservative majority temporarily greenlit the freeze. The White House even tried to claw back funding from states that had already distributed it to hungry families.

Sunrise Movement Disrupts Senate To Stop Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’

Through a mass mobilization effort by the Sunrise Movement, activists gathered in the U.S. Capitol on June 3, 2025, to execute a series of Senate disruptions. Multiple groups stormed the halls of the Philip A. Hart Senate Office Building, with actions focusing on senators who support President Trump’s “One Big Beautiful Bill Act,” including Senator Thom Tillis. Multiple arrests were made. The day started with several speakers who came from as far away as Alaska, Louisiana, North Carolina, and Wisconsin. Speakers opposed the bill due to several controversial changes. The general premise many voiced was that millions of people would be unable to afford basic meals if food assistance programs were cut. Some also spoke of the potential harms to the environment.

The ‘Big Beautiful Bill’ Would Subsidize The Billionaire Private Jet Class

The private jet lobby is pushing hard for a massive tax break for billionaires and centi-millionaires that use the most polluting form of transportation on the planet. Legislation rapidly moving through Congress, the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” — really a Big Ugly Grift (BUG) — includes a massive tax subsidy for private jet buyers. Instead of corporations deducting the purchase of their jets over several years of their useful life, the BUG includes 100 percent “bonus depreciation” in the year of purchase. For example, a corporation purchasing a $50 million private jet could potentially deduct the entire $50 million from their taxes in the year of the purchase, rather than spreading the deduction over many years. This amounts to a massive taxpayer subsidy, as ordinary taxpayers pick up the tab for the private jet industry and billionaire high flyers.

Senate Advances Trump’s ‘Big Beautiful Bill’, Includes $150 Billion For Military

The Senate on Tuesday advanced a massive spending package, dubbed the “Big Beautiful Bill” by President Trump, that includes $150 billion in extra military spending. The bill passed in a vote of 51-50, with Vice President JD Vance casting the tie-breaking vote, as three Republicans — Senators Rand Paul (KY), Susan Collins (ME), and Thom Tillis (NC) — joined Democrats in voting against the sprawling piece of legislation. House GOP leaders have scheduled a vote for the bill on Wednesday and are hoping to get it to President Trump’s desk by this Friday, though uncertainty remains about how fast it will get through the chamber.

America For Sale! Everything Must Go!

The U.S. government has fallen into the hands of people who lack proper metaphors; all they know is business. The nation should be “run like a business” according to these unimaginative suits among the GOP, who haven’t read or studied enough to consider how the government might be run like anything else. The problem with this thinking is it will, by inevitably following the profit motive, lead to a terminal phase. With the House passage of President Donald Trump’s budget legislation “One Big Beautiful Bill,” the United States has reached the private equity looting stage of the metaphor. The logic of this scheme will collapse, but it might bring us all down with it.
