Global Sumud Flotilla

We Said ‘We Will Block Everything’ And We Did

As boats from the Global Sumud Flotilla prepared to set sail toward Gaza from the coasts of Italy, Spain, and Tunisia, a representative of Genoa’s Dockworkers’ Union (CALP), now part of Unione Sindacale di Base, declared that if anything happened to the flotilla, workers would “block everything.” “Our young women and men must come back without a scratch,” the worker said at the port, before the flotilla ships departed. “And all this cargo, which belongs to the people and is going to the people, must reach its destination, down to the very last box.” So when the flotilla was attacked on the night of September 8 while in Tunisian waters, the reaction was swift: Italian labor unions, led by Unione Sindacale di Base, called for a 24-hour general strike on September 22.

Global Sumud Flotilla Boats Being Stolen By Israeli Occupying Forces

Below are Instagram posts from the Global Sumud Flotilla regarding their interception by the Israeli Occupying Forces. This is an evolving situation. Below those is an article from The Cradle about an earlier failed attempt to intercept the Flotilla. In response to this illegal attack on the Flotilla, masses of people are protesting throughout the European Union. Here is a call to action for people in the United States from Veterans For Peace (VFP). Members of VFP are on the Global Sumud Flotilla. Veterans For Peace has put together a Rapid Response toolkit, and we encourage EVERYBODY to start taking action NOW, or to be preparing your chapter to take action. VFP members have prepared THREE levels of Rapid Response- Green, Yellow and Red.

Israeli Threats To Seize Gaza Aid Flotilla

Israel is reportedly preparing to take control of ships belonging to the the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) which is expected to reach the coast of Gaza within four days, according to the official Israeli channel Kan. If these threats are carried out, the move would repeat the scenario of the Madleen and Handala ships, which attempted to reach Gaza to break the blockade and deliver humanitarian aid. Both were intercepted last June and July, respectively. Channel Kan said: “Israel is preparing to confront a maritime flotilla called the Global Sumud Flotilla and take control of it, as it is expected to reach Gaza’s shores within four days, coinciding with the Jewish Yom Kippur holiday (from Wednesday to Thursday).” The channel added that “around 50 ships have set sail from Greek coasts towards Gaza, in what is seen as the largest attempt so far to break the naval blockade imposed on the strip.”

Global Sumud Flotilla Receives Warnings Of Imminent Israeli Attack

Several governments have warned their citizens participating in the Global Sumud Flotilla of an imminent Israeli attack, according to statements by the flotilla’s organizers on 25 September. The aid convoy, made up of dozens of ships attempting to break the blockade on Gaza, sailed overnight through Greek waters and is expected to enter international waters within hours.  Activists reported that drones hovered over one of the ships, the Omar al-Mukhtar, which carries a mobile medical clinic, and confirmed that the fleet had already been targeted in 12 drone strikes that hit nine vessels. Flotilla organizers say the mission will continue despite the threats, insisting on the need to deliver humanitarian supplies directly to the besieged strip and into the hands of its starving people.

When The Governments Fail, We Sail

This week, nearly two years after the Al Aqsa flood, which marks a growing escalation of the US Zionist genocide of Palestinians. Multiple Anglo-European states, including the UK, France and Canada, declared their recognition of the State of Palestine, joining the global majority of more than 144 states who had already done so. A statement put out by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer this past Sunday reads: “in the face of the growing horror in the Middle East, we are acting to keep alive the possibility of peace and of a two state solution.” Despite his words, the UK continues to collaborate with the Zionist regime by frequently flying spy planes over Gaza, directly collaborating with the occupation forces.

A Group Of US Veterans Has Joined The Global Flotilla Sailing To Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla, which departed Barcelona on August 31, is the largest civilian maritime attempt to break Israel’s siege of Gaza. Dozens of boats are sailing across the Mediterranean to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestinians. On the night of September 23, the boats were hit with a barrage of attacks. “Multiple drones, unidentified objects dropped, communications jammed and explosions heard from a number of boats,” said the Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) in a statement. “We are witnessing these psychological operations first-hand, right now, but we will not be intimidated.” This was not the first time the flotilla had been targeted. Alleged drones hit two boats in the flotilla earlier this month, and, while Israel’s involvement has not been proven, the country’s Foreign Ministry has denounced the mission as a “jihadist initiative.”

Global Sumud Flotilla Boats Attacked By Israeli Drones

As the Israeli government continues unabated its horrific genocide of Palestinians and the destruction of housing and infrastructure in Gaza, in the third attack on the 42-ship Global Sumud flotilla, drones attacked multiple boats in international waters south-west of the Greek island of Crete, this morning September 24, 2025. In May 2025, another flotilla ship, the Conscience, was attacked in international waters off Malta. It  was damaged by Israeli bombs that blew holes in the deck of the ship’s bow causing severe damage in the hold in the bow of the ship.

Italy Redirects Navy Ship To Assist Global Sumud Flotilla After Attacks

Italy’s Defense Minister Guido Crosetto said in a statement on 24 September that an Italian navy ship has been redirected towards the Global Sumud Flotilla to provide it with “possible assistance,” after it came under a series of Israeli attacks overnight. The Italian defense minister strongly condemned the overnight drone attacks. Activists on board several of the flotilla’s boats reported at least 10 explosions after witnessing drones launch several attacks early on Wednesday. The boats were situated off the coast of Greece. “Multiple drones, unidentified objects dropped, communications jammed, and explosions heard from a number of boats. We are witnessing these psychological operations firsthand, right now, but we will not be intimidated,” Global Sumud Flotilla said.

Unidentified Drones Circle Sumud Flotilla En Route To Gaza

The International Committee to Break the Siege on Gaza (ICBSG) said on 21 September that unidentified drones have flown over the Global Sumud Flotilla, with some passing unusually close to the vessels. The group described the activity on Facebook as an “unusual level of drone activity causing concerns.” Volunteers on board confirmed they are preparing for the possibility of Israeli interception, holding nighttime drills as the ships entered the so-called “yellow zone” south of Greece, where Israeli attacks are considered increasingly likely. Organizers said the training focused on nonviolent responses should Israeli forces storm the flotilla as they did with the previous two missions to Gaza.

Israeli Foreign Ministry Says It Won’t Allow Aid Flotilla To Break Blockade

The Israeli Foreign Ministry on Monday issued a threat to the Global Sumud Flotilla, which is attempting to break Israel’s starvation siege on Gaza, warning that it wouldn’t allow the boats to breach the Israeli blockade. The Israeli Foreign Ministry has also labeled the flotilla as “Hamas,” suggesting that Israel may target the boats with military strikes. Earlier this month, two of the boats came under drone attack while they were in port in Tunisia, causing fires and damage but no injuries to the crew. “Statement Regarding the Hamas Flotilla (‘Sumud’): This flotilla, organized by Hamas, is intended to serve Hamas,” the Israeli Foreign Ministry wrote on X. “Israel will not allow vessels to enter an active combat zone and will not allow the breach of a lawful naval blockade.”

Global Sumud Flotilla Enters Crucial Phase En Route To Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla (GSF) humanitarian mission, now sailing in international waters near Greece before heading to Gaza, has entered its most crucial phase, described as the decisive moment of the entire movement within the coming week. Founder of Cinta Salam Malaysia (CSM), Ahmad Musa Al-Nuwayri Kamaruzaman, who is part of the mission, said the GSF vessel was currently en route to gather with other ships participating in the effort. Ahmad Musa, who is aboard the vessel Alma, said it was expected to arrive near Greece in the next two days. "In fact, the distance from Greece is very close to Gaza. I asked the chief executive officer of Cinta Gaza Malaysia, Muhammad Nadir Al-Nuri Kamaruzaman, and he said it may take another four to five days from Greece before reaching Gaza.

All Hands on Deck! Letter From Veterans Boat On Gaza Flotilla

Nine of us veterans arrived in Barcelona on August 27th. We were mostly strangers meeting for the first time, with a couple of exceptions.  We began to bond immediately – which was fairly easy considering our common bonds of being veterans sailing for peace.  Two Marine veterans had served together with HMX-1, presidential helicopter. There are two combat veterans. And then there’s me. That’s all that’s left as of today, as four veterans have had to leave the boat for a variety of reasons, including the inherent delays associated with the historical size of the flotilla. In Barcelona, our days were full of training protocols; preparing travel documentation and our “SOS videos” for our anticipated illegal kidnapping.  We also had time for bonding and we took advantage of the luxury of eating out.

Turkey, Spain And 14 Others Warn Against Attacks On Sumud Flotilla

The foreign ministers of 16 countries on Tuesday expressed concern about the safety of the Global Sumud Flotilla headed to Gaza, and warned against “unlawful or violent” acts against it. A joint statement was signed by Turkey, Spain, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Ireland, Libya, Malaysia, the Maldives, Mexico, Pakistan, Qatar, Oman, Slovenia and South Africa. “The Global Sumud Flotilla has informed about its objective of delivering humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip and raising awareness about the urgent humanitarian needs of the Palestinian people and the need to stop the war in Gaza,” the foreign ministers said. “Both objectives, peace and humanitarian aid delivery, together with the respect of international law, including humanitarian law, are shared by our governments.”

Global Sumud Flotilla Sets Out On Last Leg Of Journey To Gaza

The Global Sumud Flotilla, carrying critical aid to Gaza, began the final leg of its planned route after departing ports across Tunisia this weekend. The first of over 40 boats now at sea left Gammarth port on Saturday, with the final boat departing Bizerte on Monday morning. One week after arriving in Tunis, 16 of the fleet’s original 24 boats resumed their journey east from Barcelona, carrying aid and international passengers in a bid to open a humanitarian corridor and break Israel’s siege on Gaza, which is illegal under international law. At least 422 people in Gaza have died from malnutrition caused by Israel’s blockade, since famine was declared in August.

ManiFiesta And Fête De l’Humanité Open Season Of Resistance

In the face of what Peter Mertens, Secretary General of the Workers’ Party of Belgium (PTB-PVDA), called “a summer of humiliation for the European Union” – marked by EU leaders agreeing to increased NATO spending, a harmful tariff deal with the United States, and failed attempts to ingratiate themselves with the Trump administration over the war in Ukraine – movements across the region are preparing for a new season of struggles. Early September gatherings such as ManiFiesta in Belgium and La Fête de l’Humanité in France have become key moments for progressives to come together, anticipating and confronting the challenges ahead.
